Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and proactive health care assistant to join the Stroke Unit at New Cross Hospital.

The role includes supporting trained nursing staff with patient assessment and management while delivering high standards of care.

The role is fast paced and requires excellent communication skills along with a team working attitude. 

 

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant would provide support to clinicians in supporting assessments undertaking simple clinical and therapeutic procedures such as taking  clinical observations, obtaining samples, catheter care and venepuncture as well as  responding to ad hoc care requests from patients attending the unit and other members of the MDT.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • QCF/NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification/relevant experience
  • Care Certificate or ability to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
  • Level 2 Maths and English qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Food handling Certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in a healthcare environment
  • Able to undertake a limited range of delegated clinical care duties, e.g temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis, wound observations, removal cannula/catheter
  • Able to use and update IT systems with patient information
