Job overview

We are looking to recruit a dynamic and committed General Practitioner (GP) with a keen interest in the unique challenges and rewards of inner city working. 

Our current list size stands at approximately 12,000 encompassing a diverse spectrum of primary care needs. Notably, we cater to students, young families, the homeless, vulnerable individuals, international patients, and a smaller elderly demographic. Our workplace exudes vitality and

Our practice fosters a supportive atmosphere, including daily one-hour sessions dedicated to peer discussion from 1-2pm. GPs collaborate closely with an exceptional team of nurses and receive robust support from a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, including Practice Pharmacists, Physician's Associates, Podiatrists, Social Prescribers, and shared care workers from the Bristol Drugs Project. Our administrative infrastructure is top-notch, facilitating workflow optimization and patient navigation to alleviate GP workload and promote a healthy work-life balance.

Main duties of the job

As a GP at Broadmead Medical Centre you will be expected to perform the ten key functions of a doctor within a primary care setting
Primary Care – Diagnosing and treating various medical conditions, both acute and chronic, in patients of all ages.
Preventative Care - Conducting routine check-ups, screenings, and immunizations to prevent illnesses and promote overall health.
Health promotion- Educating patients about healthy lifestyle choices, including diet, exercise, and disease prevention.
Managing Chronic Conditions- Monitoring and managing ongoing health issues such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma alongside our amazing team of LTC nurses.
Referral and coordination-Referring patients to specialists and coordinating care among multiple healthcare providers.
Prescribing Medications- Prescribing medications, interpreting test results, and providing medical advice.
Patient Advocacy- Advocating for patients' needs and rights within the healthcare system.
Urgent Care – Providing initial assessment and stabilisation for emergency situations before referring to specialised care.
Medical Record keeping- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient.
Continuing education- Staying updated on medical advancements, attending professional development activities, and continuously improving clinical skills.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities
• In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, you will be available to undertake a proportionate share of a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, triage,  visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
• Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
• Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
• Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
• Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)
• Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
• In general, you will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care

Other responsibilities within the organisation
• Specific responsibility for agreed clinical areas; Lead GP will discuss and allocate
• Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
• A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
• Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
• Be a member of the clinical team, attend clinical, education or business meetings and other meetings as appropriate and maintain close personal working relationships
• Seeks ways to reduce waste, water and energy usage within the office

Person specification

Qualifications, knowledge & experience

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with GMC
  • Fully trained GP with JCTGP Vocational Training Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • Higher post graduate membership, for example, MRCGP/nMRCGP, MRCP, DRCOG, DCH
  • Family Planning Certificate
  • Alcohol and Substance abuse training
