Band 6 Hyperacute and Acute Stroke
1.0 WTE band 6 fixed term for 1 year, Starting August 2026
North Bristol NHS Trust are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated dietitian to work within the acute dietetic team here at Southmead Hospital. This B6 post would suit a dietitian who has experience of nutrition support in a variety of clinical conditions, specifically stroke, diabetes and neurology.
The acute work will provide nutrition support to the hyperacute and acute stroke ward at North Bristol NHS Trust (34a and 34b) and provide wider support to the department during periods of annual leave or unplanned leave.
Main duties of the job

Regular attendance at board round meetings (shared between post holder and supporting band 5 Dietitian)

Managing a complex nutrition support caseload (including texture modification, oral nutrition support and enteral nutrition)

Representing dietetics by attending regular speciality, governance and best interest meetings

Maintain a busy training element to the role which includes supporting junior team members within Dietetics, and other MDT colleagues

There is an expectation to become competent in NG insertion, training and bridle placement

Assisting the department in the training of student dietitians from The University of Plymouth & Birmingham City University

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide an evidenced based inpatient service to the hyperacute and acute stroke ward.
This means;

Providing expert advice to patients, carers and clinicians (both within NBT and areas served by the specialist units) about the most effective nutritional treatment.

Liaising with members of the health care team in hospital and in the community to ensure they are fully informed and able to support the patient in implementing the appropriate nutritional prescription / management for their condition.

To be responsible for and manage a defined clinical caseload. The caseload will include complex cases, with multiple pathologies.

Essential criteria
- NHS experience as a Band 5 in acute Trust
- Experience with nutrition support in NHS
- HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
- Experience working in the specialty of stroke (acute/rehab)
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience in NHS working with a wide range of clinical conditions
- Detailed knowledge of NG tube insertion and care in the acute setting
- Detailed knowledge of PEG tubes
- Self motivating and willing to seek out learning opportunities
Desirable criteria
- Detailed knowledge of best dietetic management of acute stroke, diabetes and heart disease
- Experience and skills in audit, QI or research
