Job overview

**INTERVIEWS SCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY 18 SEPTEMBER**

Are you an experienced nurse or AHP with a passion for promoting and embedding CPD? Are you ready for a new challenge? If the answer is yes, this opportunity may be for you.

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate nurse or AHP  leader to support the roll-out of a new national CPD programme. ACCEND is a new national framework to support professionals to continue to develop their skills and expertise, in order to provide the best possible service to patients with cancer, at one of the most challenging times in their life. It is referenced in the new national NHS Workforce Plan and NBT’s own internal trust-wide workforce plans.

The trust is committed to supporting the cancer workforce through ACCEND, and has made a great start with 80-90% of those undertaking ACCEND having completed their self-assessment, identifying areas of practice which they have an opportunity to develop. The workforce includes around 70 Clinical Nurse Specialists, 10 Allied Health Professionals, 10 Cancer Support Workers, a Nurse Consultant and administrators. These professionals work across clinical divisions, so an ability to build strong, supportive working relationships quickly will be essential. This new framework has opened up so much opportunity for cancer professionals, and your role will be to help them get the most out of it in a supportive and professional way.

Main duties of the job

We need a highly organised and motivated individual to provide person-centred support to members of the existing workforce, employing coaching and mentoring skills to help develop plans to meet the needs each person has identified in their ACCEND self-assessment.

You will be supported by the Deputy Lead Nurse for Cancer to become fully up to speed with developments so far, appreciating that this is a new national programme and that you will be a pioneer. Experience in completing ACCEND is desirable but not essential. If you are a fast learner with a passion for supporting others to thrive in their clinical practice, this opportunity could be for you.

The successful candidate will work closely with a new regional ACCEND Lead, and colleagues from other organisations who are delivering ACCEND, to learn from best practice elsewhere. They will work with the NBT Deputy Lead Cancer Nurse to expand a map of resources which can help clinicians to meet their CPD needs, working with individuals and teams to help them make the most of these resources.

The focus of this 8-month project will be to develop and deliver plans to support the existing workforce to get the most from the opportunities ACCEND provides, as well as delivering a package of materials to help team leads to support new starters in the future.

Working for our organisation

An exciting opportunity, has arisen at North Bristol Trust to work strategically to support the workforce to make the most of CPD opportunities available to them.

You will be expected to negotiate with relevant managers and clinical leads to navigate any risk to service delivery identified by releasing the workforce to develop their practice, supporting stakeholders to recognise and realise the longer-term benefits of CPD investment to the workforce.

You will be expected to liaise with the trust’s Education and Workforce Development team, Advanced Practice Lead, the new Assistant Chief Nursing Officer for Research and the Cancer Services Senior Leadership Team to ensure you achieve a complimentary approach to wider strategic plans for workforce development.

You will be supported by the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer for Cancer Services and Deputy Lead Cancer Nurse to ensure that your efforts are geared towards developing long-term, sustainable plans for ACCEND now and into the future. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a passion for lifelong learning to support colleagues to make the most of CPD opportunities.
