Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals to further develop their CV in this Clinical Fellow (ST3/4) post and join a team of dynamic clinicians delivering care in state-of-the-art facilities.  This post will commence from November 2025 in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care (default expectation is 50:50 split). These posts have 20% fully remunerated protected time allocated to them for personal professional development.   This post is for a 48 hour contract.

Southmead Hospital is a busy tertiary centre for many surgical and medical services as well as one of 2 major trauma centres in the Southwest of England. Candidates will have the opportunity to experience training in these tertiary specialties as part of the anaesthetic and/or ICU teams.

We welcome applications from both anaesthetic and non-anaesthetic resident doctors. The post will be of interest to any anaesthetist who has finished core/stage 1 training and is currently working towards completing stage 1 or in preparation for ST4 applications, including primary exam preparation. Stage 2 competencies can be supported during this post for up to 1 year. It would also be suitable for Medicine/EM trainees (or dual with ICM), at a similar stage in their careers, who wish to apply for ICM-only posts.

Main duties of the job

Our current clinical fellows are usually happy to speak to you. The clinical part of the post will include participation in an on-call rota.

Only one application is required for all posts, both anaesthesia and ICU. Candidates will be ranked at interview depending on performance, then asked to choose their preferred post.

While these posts are not educationally approved or recognised by the Royal College for training purposes, they are educationally sound and well supported. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices, or equivalent, is essential.

Applicants are required to be registered medical practitioners and maintain full registration with the GMC.

If you are shortlisted, we will contact you by email with details of your interview and you will need to confirm your attendance.

Please note North Bristol NHS Trust will not pay interview expenses in connection with this post.
