Job overview

We are looking for someone with operational management experience, strong service improvement skills and proven experience of achieving key performance targets within the NHS. As you will be working closely with the clinical and divisional teams you will need excellent communication and negotiation skills and the confidence to engage with consultants and senior staff, challenge practice and make decisions, taking responsibility for their outcomes. This is a key position within Centralised Outpatient services and you will need to be highly visible and have a can do attitude. You will be well supported both by the Central outpatients management team and the wider Division.

Main duties of the job

This is a key role in the management and effective delivery of daily operations of the Appointment Centre location Bristol, Patient Access Team location WGH. The Appointment Centre offers a Trust-wide central booking service and also assists divisions with outbound work when required. The Patient Access Team offers a site-wide central booking service at WGH for patients to manage their planned surgery admissions and outpatient appointments. They help to maintain appointment related electronic systems.

This role has operational responsibility for the delivery and maintenance of trust-wide outpatient improvement projects. The post holder is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with Trust-wide stakeholders, ensuring patient-focused services are supported.

The post holder is responsible and accountable for meeting key performance measures and supporting service development within their respective teams, including collating and producing regular performance reports.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate qualification in healthcare management, or equivalent evidence of continuing professional development

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of managing a range of staff or a major service
  • Experience and proven ability in managing organisational/service change
  • Acute sector operational experience
Desirable criteria
  • NHS or public sector experience
  • Management of waiting lists and performance
  • Experience of using Medway for outpatient services

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with a wide range of people and to build credibility quickly
  • Knowledge of current NHS issues; including performance targets and Foundation Trust status
  • Proven ability to analyse and resolve complex issues
  • Ability to manage a post that will change and develop to meet the needs of the service
