We would like to offer an exciting part time opportunity for a nurse with previous acute surgical experience and excellent communication skills, to join our regional Pancreatitis Service. The Upper GI department at University Hospitals Bristol and
Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) delivers care to both the south Bristol catchment area and the southwest peninsular. This opportunity, is well suited to an individual focused on delivering evidence based care and with interest to expand their knowledge in the upper GI speciality.

The successful candidate will have opportunity to manage their own caseload of patients and be integral in the further development of this new service. They will gain experience in supporting and counselling patients through investigations and
treatment and work with our region’s senior clinicians and allied health professionals. Our links with the Association of Upper GI Surgery (AUGIS) means there is opportunity to network with other tertiary referral teams and have opportunity to
attend national conferences. With the support of the experienced team at UHBW, there is opportunity for learning, to develop specialist skills and audit our work which will shape future practice.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

  • As a Band 6 Pancreatitis nurse you will be forming effective working relationships with the multi-professional team at UHBW and also the network trusts across the southwest.
  • Supported by the senior surgical nursing team and Consultant Surgeon you will be assessing, reviewing and advising patients with pancreatitis about their diagnosis and prognosis, offering specialist symptom advice and independent inpatient reviews.
  • Working as part of dynamic team you will, with support, have your own caseload of patient’s and will present their case at the multidisciplinary team meeting.
  • You will, with support of the Consultant, identify the best care pathways for pancreatitis patients and effectively communicate and advocate their wishes to the team.

Person Specifications

  • Senior nurse with previous experience of acute surgical patient care
  • Evidence of good oral and written communication skills, including good IT skills.
  • Able to demonstrate effective delegation and prioritisation of workload
  • 1st Level Degree in nursing or health related subject (or working towards this level).
  • Exceptional leadership and teaching skills and interest in problem solving and developing new services.

Qualifications and Training

  • RGN.1st Level or relevant children’s qualification
  • Current NMC Registration
  • 1st Degree In nursing or health related subject, willing to undertake/ working towards
  • Relevant accredited post registration qualification at level 3
  • Qualification in Teaching and Assessing
Desirable criteria
  • Willingness to work towards Masters level academic study
