Job overview
Are you an experienced project leader with a passion for delivering high-impact capital projects in a healthcare environment? Do you have strong project and budget management skills? Do you have a good knowledge of healthcare guidance, HTM’s HBN’s and other industry specific values?

This pivotal role will lead on tactical and strategic capital projects, including the Fire Improvement Programme, RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) Removal Scheme, and associated infrastructure design. You will manage both major and minor capital projects from inception through to completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Main duties of the job
Main duties of the role will include:
- Act as UHBW representative for checking and advising on design issues in regard to Design & Build schemes designed by external consultants
- To ensure all capital schemes are assessed for V.A.T. efficiency and information is available to facilitate repayment claims.
- Co-ordinate the production of costings for projects identified as potential capital projects within agreed protocols and to a standard format, including the production of tender reports.
- To provide leadership and line management support to members of the Project Team, administering guidance regarding professional development and training. Support and mentor junior staff as required.
- Manage staff in terms of performance, personal and professional development including appraisals, grievances and disciplinary matters etc.

Experience
Essential criteria
- To have significant experience as project lead
- Significant experience of managing large Capital budgets and delivering projects within budgetary limits
- Knowledge and practical experience to complete building projects of varying values.
- Experience of leading and managing/ motivating professional services teams
Desirable criteria
- Significant experience working with NHS capital procurement
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Possession of a recognised professional qualification HNC/Degree/ Higher National Diploma in building or engineering field
- Corporate membership of appropriate professional body, IHEEM IMECHE, IEE, IIE RICS, RIBA CIOB, CIBSE etc.
- NEBOSH Fire Safety or equivalent
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Performing Authorised Person (AP) duties for Estates. Or willingness to become an AP
Desirable criteria
- Possession of a Project Management qualification – Prince 2
- Management NVQ 4/5
Skills
Essential criteria
- Demonstrable staff management skills including communication, delegation and an understanding of basic terms and conditions of employment
- Excellent planning and organisational skills to develop programmes of work and manage against them.
- Strong project and budget management skills.
- A knowledge and understanding of project management software packages specifically MS Project
- Ability to produce and use digital drawings using CAD equipment (Autocad).
