An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time (7 PA's) locum Consultant General Paediatricians to join our Weston-based team at UHBW. We are seeking enthusiastic, passionate and dynamic individuals who will enhance our established team of Consultant Paediatricians. You will take part in the general workload of the department and play a vital role in the delivery of healthcare for Children and Young People across North Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire. We are looking for a colleague who is driven, enthusiastic and adaptable to join our team. Being a flexible team-player is essential. Expertise in an area of special interest to complement those already available in the Department is welcome. Weston-Super-Mare and its surroundings are a wonderful place to live, with beautiful countryside, easy access to Bristol, and direct train services to London, Taunton and Exeter.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will be an integral part of the General Paediatric service across Weston and Bristol, delivering the short-stay assessment and ambulatory care service at the Seashore Centre weeks as the named service consultant, as well as contributing to the General Paediatrics acute inpatient service in Bristol and the trust wide Safeguarding consultant service also based in Bristol.
Rapid access clinics and routine general paediatric clinics will be held mostly in Weston-Super-Mare. The postholder may be asked to deliver some clinics in Bristol to allow patients to access healthcare closer to home.

Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Full and specialist registration in either AIM or GIM with the General Medical Council (GMC) or
- Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview *Locum candidates do not need specialist registration
- APLS Certified
Desirable criteria
- Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in general paediatrics and safeguarding
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy
Clinical Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Up to date knowledge and experience of of general paediatrics and safeguarding children and young people
- Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to specialty
- Skills in acute paediatric assessment and management, and delivery of outpatient general paediatric care
- Excellent time management skills
Desirable criteria
- Broad range of IT skills
Clinical Governance and Audit

- Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
