Job overview

This is a dynamic leadership role for three days per week, to include Saturday, Sunday and one other day. The post-holder will be responsible for managing the OOHs Health Roster, completing staff bank shift payments, and providing Dental  nurse advisor support on site for the OOHs Service to include evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible for ensuring adequate clinical, nursing and reception cover for the OOH clinics , completing ongoing staff programmes and circulating as appropriate, and providing line management and leadership for all sessional Band 4 Dental Nurses and Band 3 Clinic co-ordinators (including appraisals and inductions ). The post-holder will also provide support to the OOHs Lead Dentist, PCDS Clinical Lead and Operations Manager, and Dental Nurse Line Managers.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

•        Provide  leadership & line management support for Dental Nurses & Clinic co-ordinators, Weekends, evenings and Bank Holidays

•        Responsible for ensuring bank shifts are entered and finalised on the  Health Roster for payment.

•        Manage the OOHs phone to receive and manage unplanned changes to  rosters on an on-call basis.

•        Ensure patient details & appointments booked by NHS 111 are entered onto SfD in a timely manner.      

•        To ensure all decontamination equipment testing and documentation is completed.    

•        Be responsible for recording & monitoring all resources identified for use for the OOHs service only     

•        Provide a record in order to monitor contracted staff sickness.

•        Receive and approve Annual Leave requests for support staff for monitoring & recording by  DN Manager

•        To ensure adequate clinician, dental nurse and reception cover for agreed  OOH clinics and triage sessions, covering any nursing or admin gaps in the rota.

•        To assist in the induction and ongoing training and development of dental  nurses and receptionists, including undertaking appraisals.             

•        To liaise closely with the Lead Dentist and Dental Nurse Manager for the service

•        To ensure compliance with UHBW Divisional policies and procedures.

•        To be involved in the recruitment and selection of dental nurses and

reception staff, as appropriate

•        To provide all such information and data as directed          

•        To ensure that all current H&S procedures are adhered to.

•        To ensure banking procedures are carried out in line with UHBW policies. 

•        To lead and support the continuous development and improvement of the service by supporting the development and implantation of new processes.

•        Demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity when providing care for patients, relatives and colleague.

Essential criteria
  • experience of leading and supervising a team

Desirable criteria
  • • Experience of being part of a quality improvement project

qualifications and training

Essential criteria
  • National Diploma in Dental nursing or equivalent Level 3 DN qualification
  • Current registration with the GDC
  • Post Qualification in Conscious sedation, Special care Dental Nursing, Oral health education, Dental Radiography, Implant nursing, Orthodontic nursing
Desirable criteria
  • • Completion of enhanced Dental Nurse courses such as Fluoride application
