Junior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated clinicians to join our team in the Children’s Emergency Department at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

The successful candidate will work on the SHO grade rota alongside trainees from Paediatrics, General Practice and the Foundation School.

Main duties of the job

Junior Clinical Fellows will be responsible for the initial assessment and management of acutely unwell and injured children who self-present to the Children’s Emergency Department or who are referred by their GP. They will work alongside the multi-disciplinary team in the Children’s Emergency Department to provide excellent care to children from our local area and around the South-West.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge to guide patient care
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of Paediatric and/or Emergency Medicine experience

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise information and time in an effective and planned manner
  • Skills to communicate clearly with multi-disciplinary health professionals
  • Ability to build rapport with children and their carers, communicate with them effectively and act as a patient advocate
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of leadership skills

Additional & Aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Experience of working in NHS Hospitals
  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients, their carers and with other health professionals
  • Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice)
  • Ability and motivation to take responsibility for own actions and demonstrate respect for all
  • Capacity and motivation to learn from experience and constantly update skills/knowledge

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
  • Successful completion of Foundation Training or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Additional qualifications and/or training demonstrating interest and commitment to the field of Paediatrics and/or Emergency Medicine
