Job overview
The department is seeking senior clinical fellow (ST3 +) for 1 year period from 1st of October 2025 on the registrar rota for paediatric surgery and urology.
This is the regional tertiary referral centre for paediatric surgery in the South-West of England and also provides non-specialist surgery for the Bristol conurbation.
Paediatric Surgery, BRHC: The work involves care for all children admitted to the Children’s hospital including general surgery, oncological and gastrointestinal surgery and urology.
Neonatal Surgery, St Michael’s: The work involves the surgical care of infants undergoing surgery, working in co-operation with the neonatologists who staff NICU.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to a non-resident standard on-call rota with 8 other ST3+ trainees.
Main duties of the job
The post involves working for the Consultants as part of the non-resident standard on-call rota.
Undergraduate medical Students;
The post is a teaching hospital and therefore the teaching of students on wards rounds and outpatient clinics forms part of the daily routine. There may the opportunity to undertake certain formal teaching commitments.
Postgraduate Medical Staff:
Postgraduate teaching of medical staff will be subject to paragraph 166 of the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital medical and Dental Staff, but is a normal part of the duties of this post to instruct junior staff under supervision.
Nurses and Other Staff:
On occasions a practitioner may be asked to give lectures to nurses (fees are payable in accordance with paragraph 165 Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital medical and Dental Staff).

- Previous publications
Desirable criteria
- Previous LATs in paediatric surgery
- Experience in neonatal care

Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Evidence of operative ability in the general surgery of childhood
- Evidence of ability to perform practical procedures on children and neonates such as Venous cannulation
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of neonatal surgical experience
Qualifications and Training

- FRCS/MRCS
- APLS/ATLS
Desirable criteria
- FRCS (Paed Surg)
- Intercalated degree
