Job overview

We are delighted to advertise an exciting opportunity to join the Adult Speech & Language Therapies Department at University Hospitals Bristol & Weston NHS Foundation Trust

We are looking to recruit a 0.6 wte (22.5 hours per week) permanent Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to work within the Respiratory & Critical care pathways providing a communication and dysphagia service to in-patients within the high care Respiratory and Cardiology wards, General Intensive Care Unit as well as the Regional Cardiac Intensive care Unit. We also work with patients receiving ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) as our Trust hosts one of only six centrally-funded ECMO services within England.

The successful applicant will work alongside fellow band 6 and Clinical Speciality Team Leads within these pathways, supported by a fantastic SLT Assistant as well as closely working with members of the multi-disciplinary team. You will manage tracheostomised and ventilator dependent patients. You will also participate in, and contribute to regular teaching within the MDT.

Main duties of the job

We are a dynamic team providing an excellent service to our patients and staff. You will be working within a team who enjoy a supportive and friendly working environment, where we encourage participation and learning from one another at all times and focus our efforts towards a patient centred service. You will work as part of the wider SLT Adult service which has Specialist SLTs within Stroke, Older People and Progressive Neurological disorders, Head & Neck, Oncology and Voice. The department has regular in –service training, peer and line management supervision and weekly Videofluoroscopy and in-patient FEES services.

While we are hoping to recruit someone with existing trache competencies, we would also be interested in receiving applications from SLTs with excellent acute transferable experience and an eagerness to develop specialist critical care skills.
