Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Rota Co-ordinator to lead and manage a Band 4 Rota Co-ordinator in Surgery Division.  

The role involves providing comprehensive administrative support and leadership for the production and running of rotas for junior medical staff, ensuring rotas are completed, updated and publicised in line with required timescales, highlighting any requirements for locum cover in a timely manner.  You will be responsible for producing data and reporting on the effectiveness of the rotas, ensuring all absence is recorded accurately and in a timely manner.  Alongside these responsibilities, you will manage a Rota Co-ordinator working across

Main duties of the job

Provide line management and leadership to the a Band 4 Rota Co-ordinator

To oversee the production and maintenance of junior doctor on call rotas for the Division of Surgery, ensuring that they are compliant with EWTD and New Deal regulations and that they are equitable for all staff.

To oversee the design, production and monitoring of new medical rota templates, when required, ensuring compliance with EWTD, New Deal regulations and bandings.

To oversee an annual review, with Medical HR, of all medical rotas to ensure continued compliance with EWTD and New Deal regulations

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing rotas and resolving rota issues
  • Proven ability of working in a team environment and delivering team objectives
  • Experience of management of other team members of staff, including day to day delegation of work
  • Evidence of working under pressure to tight deadlines whilst prioritising workload (E) • Ability to manage own workload
  • Knowledge of medical and dental terms and conditions of service, including Understanding of monitoring process for doctors in training
  • Experience of using rota software
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of HR practices
  • Knowledge of New Deal and European Working Time Directive working time regulations
  • Knowledge of rota re-banding process
  • Experience and knowledge of monitoring of junior doctors hours
  • Experience of rota design to maximise efficiency

  • Excellent IT skills with experience of all Microsoft packages, especially Excel
