Job overview

As University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) has recently expanded the Respiratory service to create a full rotational model across both Bristol aNd Weston sites, we are pleased to advertise for four Consultant Respiratory Physicians. These posts are expected to cover both inpatient and outpatient activity across both sites, which will be determined through the job planning process.
The successful candidates will develop special interests to extend the spectrum of the respiratory services offered at both sites, and support services currently being developed in the department. The post holders will undertake general respiratory clinics as well as a specialist interest clinic and support the bronchoscopy.  There will be inpatient responsibility for the respiratory wards on a 1:4 rotational basis. The posts include a commitment to the Weston on-call rota out of hours.
The posts are advertised as a 10 PA posts, but candidates wishing to be considered for a position with additional or fewer sessions are welcome to apply. The appointments of this position will be part of the current Weston consultant on call rota.
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of their CCT and ideally have NHS experience. However non-UK applicants wishing to apply for specialist registration could be considered on a fixed term basis.

Main duties of the job

This post will have 10 programmed activities (PA).  There will be an option to negotiate an increase to up to a maximum 12 PAs subsequent to appointment, to support additional activities such as research, educational supervision, or subspecialist clinical work, if clear evidence is produced that the workload justifies this.
The successful candidates will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to administration of patient care. This includes working to set timescales for the triage of referrals, the completion of discharge summaries prior to patients being discharged, following the specified process for the management of patients that do not attend (DNA) their appointment or admission, and the completion of all paperwork deemed necessary to support the management of their patients within agreed timescales. Consultants are also expected to work with service managers and clinical colleagues to manage their caseload in a flexible way, to ensure clinical, national and local priorities, such as maximum waiting times for referral to treatment, are achieved.
The successful applicant will have responsibility for the care of the patients entrusted to them.  All consultants are expected to have a flexible attitude towards the work of the Directorate.
