Job overview
We are looking for a Ward Clerk to join our Maternity wards working a combination of short shifts throughout a 24 hour service. Shifts could be on Rothschild and/or Labour ward. The successful candidate will be welcoming the mothers on admission and supporting midwives, doctors and maternity support workers with their administration and discharge paperwork.
Main duties of the job
The post holders would need to provide a courteous, efficient and professional ward clerk service, making a valuable contribution to support patient care from the time of admission, transfer or discharge. The successful candidates would be the first contact point for all ward visitors and members of the multi-professional team so good interpersonal skills are essential.
We are looking for well-organized, enthusiastic individuals to work within our dynamic team, helping us to ensure our FORWARD behaviours are met and that care is delivered to the highest standard.
You will need to be able to work flexibly and apply a methodical approach to a varying workload in what can be a fast paced, pressurized environment. You should be self-motivated, have excellent communication/interpersonal skills and have the ability to work on your own as well as part of a busy team where the work can be deadline driven.
Previous NHS clerical experience is desirable and administrative and keyboard skills would be an advantage. The successful candidate will need an excellent telephone manner and must be able to deal efficiently with members of the public and all disciplines of hospital staff.

Education, Qualification & Training
Essential criteria
- English Language GCSE grade C or above or equivalent.
- IT/Computer skills to RSA I or equivalent with recent work experience in this field.
