Job overview
A substantive permanent Specialty Doctor post in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is available to commence from October 2026 at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
It is an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to join the team within Buckinghamshire NHS Trust, supplying Oral and maxillofacial services to Buckinghamshire population. This post offers the opportunity to work within a major Integrated Care System (ICS) called BOB (Buckinghamshire-Oxfordshire-Berkshire). The post holder will be expected to work a total of 5.5 PA’s that will include 4.5 sessions of DCC and 1 session supporting clinical activity (SPA) currently unscheduled on job plan.
Applicants MUST hold a Full GDC Registration with a Licence to Practice in the UK.
Main duties of the job
Candidates will share the responsibility of the day to day running of the unit, i.e. operating lists, waiting list and clinics.
This post is based in Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust which comprises of 3 main sites; Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury, Wycombe General Hospital in High Wycombe and Amersham General Hospital in Amersham. The service also runs from some peripheral sites including Marlow Community Hospital. The post holder’s duties will be based across the Trust sites at Aylesbury, Amersham and Marlow.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are seeking an individual experienced in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, they preferably should have FDSRCS or equivalence and or MFDSRCS.
They should have previous experience in working as a middle grade or higher level in a busy District General Hospital setting in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, including independent operating & clinic sessions.
A GDC full registration with previous oral & maxillofacial surgery experience is required to be considered for this post. A GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice is desirable.
Candidates will share the responsibility of the day to day running of the unit, i.e. operating lists, waiting lists, clinics and supervision of junior staff. The majority of emergencies are seen and treated by the Staff Grades and the Associate Specialist with full consultant cover.
Principal duties will be at Stoke Mandeville and Amersham Hospitals, but the Speciality Doctor may be required to carry out regular duties at other clinics. The Speciality Doctor duties involve: Outpatient Clinics, Operating Sessions, A&E Duties.

- GDC Registered Dental degree BDS or equivalent
- Previous oral and maxillofacial surgery experience

EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- At least 2 formal years of experience at Foundation/Core level in Oral and maxillofacial Surgery within the NHS
- Broad base of clinical experience, further experience in treatment of multidisciplinary case load.
Desirable criteria
- Experience as SpR or equivalent level
