Job overview

Are you a friendly, organised individual with excellent communication skills? We are looking for a dedicated Pharmacy Receptionist to join our team!

As the initial point of contact for patients, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals, you will be responsible for:

  • Answering and directing telephone enquiries in a professional and helpful manner.
  • Receiving prescriptions and ensuring they are processed efficiently.
  • Managing pharmacy-specific work at the hatch, including patient interactions.
  • Providing exceptional customer service to both patients and healthcare providers.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks such as filing, organising, and general office duties.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication abilities and a willingness to assist others.

Main duties of the job

  •  Ensure all patients and hospital staff are attended to promptly in a friendly manner and referred on appropriately.
  • Receive prescriptions according to current protocols including the receipt of prescription charges and tracking prescriptions through the prescription tracking system.
  • Take appropriate prescription charges from patients, usage of the till and ensure prescriptions are completed with payment and non-payment details.
  • Answer the telephone in a courteous, helpful and informative way, gathering the information accurately and dealing with the query in a professional manner.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assist in receipt and storage of pharmacy supplies including storage and loading the Pharmacy robot.
  • Refer questions from patients or healthcare staff to appropriate members of the dispensary team.
  • Use CMM (Pharmacy computer system) to undertake routine checks of stock levels in the Pharmacy, checking expiry dates and ensuring that stock is rotated according to procedures.
  • Carry out general housekeeping duties such as topping-up of bottles and cartons.
  • Assist in collection of information for audits around work delivery, patient waiting times etc.
  • Maintain a clean, safe working environment by cleaning and tidying dispensary.
  • Deliver medicines to the wards and assisting portering staff as required.
  • Accurately complete paperwork gathering all information that is required.
  • Prepare medication for deliveries to wards and external hospitals

Essential criteria
  • Good basic education e.g. (GCSE's or equivalent qualifications) or previous relevant experience
Desirable criteria
  • Level 2 qualification in Pharmacy Services (or in training to gain qualification)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent employment in pharmacy environment or hospital environment
  • Experience in welcoming customers and answering the telephone

  • Ability to work to Standard Operating Procedures accurately and in a timely fashion
  • To be literate & numerate
  • To work accurately
  • To have a clean and tidy appearance
  • To have a positive attitude and the ability to recognise and embrace new ideas
