Job overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Dietitian to join our well established and friendly Nutrition and Dietetics team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.  This permanent Band 6 post is full time (37.5 hours per week) specialising in type 1 diabetes outpatients, DAFNE (potential opportunity for training/development) and the REACT team, providing dietetic input to a multidisciplinary therapy team to ensure vulnerable patients’ nutritional and hydration needs are met particularly in urgent and emergency care. 

The post holder will also provide the clinical support and development of a Band 5 Dietitian, as well as supporting B and C student placements.  

The Nutrition and Dietetic Department consists of over 40 members of staff, providing integrated acute and community nutrition and dietetic services across Buckinghamshire.

We actively encourage CPD and clinical supervision for the professional development of the team. The department has good secretarial / IT support and takes students for B and C placements. Accommodation on site may be available.

Main duties of the job

To be an autonomous practitioner and act as a source of clinical expertise in the areas of type 1 diabetes in the out-patient setting and nutrition support across acute and community services (supporting timely discharge/front door care).

To work autonomously, developing dietetic input to a multidisciplinary therapy Team (REACT) to ensure vulnerable patients nutritional and hydration needs are met particularly in urgent and emergency care.

To provide specialised assessment, treatment and support of patients requiring dietetic treatment in diabetes services.

To provide support for dietitians, dietetic assistants, student dietitians and members of the wider MDT.

To develop and maintain a high standard of knowledge and practical experience in dietetics and nutritional support.

To work autonomously to assess and advise on nutritional diagnosis (interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometry, clinical condition and diet history) and the development of suitable Dietetics care plans, feeding plans/regimens (including the calculation of nutritional requirements and client centred goals)

To develop and deliver the dietetic service within urgent and emergency care (accident and emergency, short stay ward) to ensure patients receive dietetic support in a timely manner, in order to influence nutritional status as early as possible.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • An appropriate degree recognised for registration with HCPC
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Post graduate/CPD training evidence of study in relevant specialist field specialist training
