Are you a dynamic, dedicated, passionate and forward-thinking Cardiology Consultant committed to delivering safe, effective and high-quality care; able to work collaboratively to contribute to all aspects of Respiratory and GIM services at MKUH?
As a Cardiology Consultant with an interest in Echocardiology and Heart Failure, you will :
· Work with the existing team to provide a 7-day service (incl On Calls)
· Provide expert clinical care for inpatients and outpatients (diagnosis, treatment and aftercare)
· Facilitate the urgent transfer of patients to OUH
· Lead and develop specialist Cardiology services
· Collaborate with a team of consultants, nurses, physiotherapists, and allied health professionals.
- Contribute to teaching, training, and research initiatives within the department

Main duties of the job
Contribution to all aspects of the Cardiology service ~ provision of acute/elective care of adult Cardiology patients in conjunction with community services & regional specialist centres.
Active engagement in the development/delivery of Echocardiology & Heart Failure services, working closely with the Physiologists.
Inpatient Work and On Call
· 28-bed Cardiology Ward (incl 8x CCU).
· Consultant Cardiologists participate in a 1:9 ‘Consultant of the Week’ rota for general Cardiology (On these occasions the Job Plan is modified to undertake ward rounds, cover advice and guidance, GP referrals and provide support for Cardiology referrals)
· 1:8 weekend ward round commitment in CCU/Cardiology Ward and reviews of inpatients (incl Medical Admissions Unit). No formal GIM commitment
What We’re Looking For :
· Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
· MBBS/MRCP (or equivalent)
· CCT in Cardiology (or within 6m of achieving)
Proven experience in delivering high-quality cardiology care

The Cardiology Department
Cardiology sits within the Division of Medicine.
The Cardiology Department provides specialist cardiac care for patients in an eight-bedded, fully monitored Coronary Care Unit and a step-down 18-bedded cardiology ward (Ward 17).
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will join a team of 8x Consultants and 2x Speciality Doctors who have an interest in General Cardiology, Heart Failure, Interventional Medicine and Angiography.
The wider team is supported by a team of Resident Doctors, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Physiologists and a Physiotherapist.
This is a whole-time substantive post for a Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Echocardiography and Heart Failure.
The successful candidate will also be required to support the cardiology inpatient service and virtual ward on a rotational consultant of the week basis. It may be possible to support other subspecialty imaging interests subject to successful business case.
This a new post based at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH). The successful candidate will work with the existing MKUH team to provide a 7-day general Cardiology service for our local adult population

Professional qualifications
Essential criteria
- MB BS or equivalent
- MRCP or equivalent
- Entry on Specialist Register in Cardiology with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT or equivalent) or entry expected within six months of interview date
- BSE / ESC Accreditation in Echocardiography
- Fully trained and experienced in advanced echocardiography (TOE and DSE)
Desirable criteria
- Higher medical degree (MD/PhD)
- Additional imaging qualification (eg CT/MRI)
Clinical knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of broad training and experience in all aspects of general cardiovascular medicine, cardiac imaging and heart failure
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level
- Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion on a broad range of emergency and elective cardiology problems, and the ability to manage complex clinical problems.
- Ability to prioritise clinical need
Desirable criteria
- Consultant-level experience working as an independent, senior decision-maker.
- Expertise in multimodality Cardiac Imaging
Teaching and training skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of contributions to teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates.
- Evidence of ability to motivate and develop both medical and non-medical staff.
- Willingness and ability to contribute to departmental and Trust teaching programmes.
Desirable criteria
- Education/ teaching qualification
- Experience in formal educational roles
Communication and Interpersonal Skills

- Evidence of ability to communicate with patients and colleagues. Ability to gain the trust and confidence of colleagues and patients.

Circumstance
Essential criteria
- Required to maintain full registration with the General Medical Council as well as remaining on the Specialist Registrar.
- If applying with CESR, must be on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of application.
- Evidence of regular and up-to-date appraisal.
