Main duties of the job
Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) ENT Department currently has a vacancy for a 10 PA Consultant post. This is a new post created to support the increasing local population and demand for ENT services.
The post holder will join a team of 5 Consultants and provide general adult and paediatric ENT Surgery with a subspecialty interest in Otology. The objective of the ENT department is to support MKUH NHS Trust in becoming one of the best health care Trusts in the country. We are focused on providing a high-quality patient experience and being an excellent place to work for all staff, believing that improving patient and staff experience will assist in producing a high-quality, efficient and patient-centred service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
A 10 PA job plan with a flexible working structure, supporting professional activities, and a strong commitment to education, research, and clinical governance. You'll be expected to contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, audit and service development initiatives, and provide high-quality patient care.
This post will have a combination of Theatre and Outpatient clinics sessions throughout the job plan. The post holder will be included on a 1 in 5 three-tier on-call rota; supporting the non-resident middle-grade and resident doctor. ENT is a 24/7 service. The on call is a category A and you will receive a 5% on call supplement.
Relevant capabilities should be clearly demonstrated on the list of surgical experience/procedures.

Qualification/Registrations
Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration
- An appropriate higher ENT qualification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Wide experience of general otolaryngology
Clinical Experience/Training
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to operate independently in: • Tympanomastoid surgery • Endoscopic sinus surgery
- Demonstrate can manage complex medical and surgical critical care patients.
- Evidence of commitment to further post graduate education and continuous professional development
Desirable criteria
- Fellowship in specialised surgery
- Commitment to undergraduate teaching
- Evidence to allow accreditation as a Consultant Educational Supervisor for Trainee doctors within the GMC
- Previous locum consultant experience
Communication Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate effectively through good verbal and written skills
- Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
Teaching
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to teach
- Commitment to develop teaching for nursing and other support specialties
- Evident to allow accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for trainee doctors within the GMC
- A proven background in organising and delivering undergraduate and post graduate teaching and research with evidence of training for the role is highly desirable
Desirable criteria
- Commitment to undergraduate teaching
- Ability to be able to appraise both trainees and other staff
- Demonstrate ability as a teacher with evidence of training for the role
- Diploma or other qualification in Medical Education
Leadership/Management Skills
Essential criteria
- Evidence of ability to lead a team by positive example and effective organisational skills
- Commitment of effective department management
- Able to demonstrate an awareness of skills required for effective change processes to work
- Ability to motivate and develop medical staff.
Desirable criteria
- Proven management experience
- Understanding of business planning and contracting
- Interest in Medical Management
- Proven experience in leading/ facilitating a change of process.

- Appropriate IT skills for a consultant post in ENT

- Publication of audit reports
- Proven track record in ENT research with evidence of publications
