Specialist Occupational Therapist in Frailty

Department: Therapies

Band  6   £35,392 - £42,618 per annum

Hours: 37.5 per week as part of a 7-day working pattern.

 All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

The Acute Assessment and Frailty Team (AAFT) is currently seeking to recruit a skilled Band 6 Occupational Therapist. This team is welcoming and dedicated to delivering comprehensive assessments and care for the frail population within the hospital.

We are in search of dynamic individuals with experience in the medical field, elderly care, or frailty to contribute their expertise in specialist frailty assessments and treatments as integral members of a multidisciplinary team. The role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating interventions based on evidence-based/best practices.

Successful candidates should be highly motivated, flexible, and innovative therapists with excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills. The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team is crucial. Additionally, candidates will be responsible for supervising and training junior therapy staff and assistants.

As a bonus, successful applicants will have the opportunity to attend our newly developed MSc Frailty module in collaboration with Northampton University. Support from our dedicated Therapy Practice Development team will also be provided.

  • To provide advanced Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions
  • To be responsible for own case load within a predominately Acute assessment areas, working without direct supervision but with daily senior support as required
  • To work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and integrate working practices with community partners in order to facilitate timely discharge and admission avoidance
  • To train and develop junior staff and students.
  • To undertake evidence based audit to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to Manager / Team Leader regarding changes to practice and/or service policies and protocols.
  • To represent therapies as a visible, knowledgeable, confident, supportive and high performing professional group.

Qualifications and knowledge

  • Registered with UK Health Care Professions Council
  • Evidence of post registration CPD
  • Sound therapeutic and clinical knowledge
  • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy best practise for a range of conditions

  • Membership of Specialist Interest Groups
  • Awareness of NHS and Trust systems, policies, procedures and current changes

Experience

  • Relevant experience in a hospital setting
  • Completed core rotations in Outpatients/Orthopaedics/Neurology/ Respiratory/Medicine & Surgery
  • Active member of multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of working with Older People
  • Experience in a community setting and or Acute Assessment Unit
  • Supervision and training of assistants, junior members of staff and students
  • Able to independently manage caseload to include complex patients

  • Able to appropriately apply a range of treatment approaches
