Rotational Physiotherapist 

Department: Therapies

Band 6pro rata if part-time

Hours: 37.5 per week Fixed Term contract 9 months 

all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

 

Our Therapy Department is currently looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join our cohort of rotational band 6’s on a Fixed term contract for 9 months.

The rotations are 8 months in length and cover the following areas:

·        Respiratory – Respiratory medicine including NIV, General surgery including ERP programme and ICU

·        MSK Outpatients including hydrotherapy

·        Inpatient Orthopaedics – Trauma and Elective

·        Acute Stroke Unit

      ·        Acute assessment and Frailty team

·        MSK outreach and domiciliary service

Working as part of a dedicated and skilled Therapy Services team you will be providing a holistic therapy approach to patients in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. There is a strong expectation to collaborate with all members of the MDT to ensure the complex needs of patients are always at the centre of your care.

A programme of leadership development sessions is available as well as the opportunity to be involved in the education of the MDT, appraisal mentor and service development projects.

We have a dedicated Therapy practice education team whose role is to support staff and student development.

Previous experience as a Band 6 or 5 Physiotherapist is essential. An ability to demonstrate a proactive flexible approach and to be able to work well on own initiative is essential. Demonstrable skills in service development are desirable, along with a keen interest in educating fellow healthcare colleagues.

The post holder will participate in the respiratory on call rota (including weekends and bank holidays as required). The post holder will also work within a 7 day service whilst on rotation with the Acute Assessment & Frailty Team, and cover weekend shifts whilst on rotation on the Acute Stroke Unit. 

MSK outpatients runs extended hours during the week.

Car driver is essential for MSK outreach and on call services.

It is essential you have current HCPC registration as a Physiotherapist.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical

 

  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.

 

  • To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with a complex presentation/multi-pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis of their condition.

 

  • To formulate, deliver and evaluate individual physiotherapy treatment programmes based on a sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using advanced clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills.

Professional

 

  • To maintain own continuing professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments, and incorporate them as necessary into your work.

 

  • To be responsible for:

 

  • Teaching student physiotherapists to graduate level on physiotherapeutic skills and knowledge within core clinical areas.

 

  • Providing support & guidance to other physiotherapists and assistants.

Organisational

 

  • To be responsible for the supervision and coordination of band 5 staff, students and assistants on a daily basis, in conjunction with the Lead Therapist for each clinical area as required.

 

  • To ensure that your own practice and that of staff under your supervision meet the required professional standards of physiotherapy practice.

 

  • To be responsible for the safe and competent use of appropriate equipment by patients, band 5 therapy staff, assistants and student physiotherapists, through teaching, training and supervision of practice.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Physiotherapy Degree/Diploma or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Registered with UK Health and Care Professions Council
  • Awareness of NHS & Trust systems, policies, procedures & current changes.
  • Sound therapeutic & clinical knowledge.
  • Knowledge of physiotherapy best practise for a range of conditions
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of CSP
  • Membership of specialist interest groups

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience in hospital setting at band 5 or 6 level.
  • Active member of multi-disciplinary team
  • Supervision & training of assistants, junior members of staff and students
  • Able to independently manage caseload
Desirable criteria
  • Undertaken project within area e.g. best practice project, guideline development, benchmarking or audit

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to prioritise appropriately.
  • Timely management of patient medical records.
  • Practice Evidence Based therapy.
  • Ability to do clinical and non-clinical supervision sessions and appraisals with band 5, assistants and students.
