Job overview

Do you have experience in Aseptic production or in manufacturing, laboratory or pathology and would like to join our small but growing pharmacy technical service.

We are looking for a motivated support worker who holds an NVQ 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent or is willing to undertake the qualification. If you hold manufacturing or laboratory experience this is an exciting opportunity to change direction.

The successful post holder will need to be dynamic and flexible and demonstrate excellent attention to detail with fine manual dexterity skills.

Our service provides a wide range of chemotherapy and other aseptically prepared medicines to patients across Buckinghamshire from our two main hospital sites, Stoke Mandeville and Wycombe.

This role is both interesting and varied, with unlimited learning available to the successful post holder. We are a developing and improvement led team, committed in supporting you to reach your full potential. We offer a full training programme using a variety of resources and provide opportunities to further develop in technical services and the wider pharmacy. There will also be future opportunities to progress towards the NVQ 3 registered technician qualification.

Main duties of the job

  • To maintain an up to date broth test and hatch transfer validation in order to be able to work in the aseptic suite.
  • To prepare cytotoxics, monoclonal antibodies and other aseptic products on a day to day basis in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • To ensure that handling and storage procedures are strictly followed for cytotoxic/aseptic medicines and that any spillages are cleared in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Cleaning of isolators on a sessional basis.
  • To assist in the Quality Control and Quality Assurance of aseptic preparation area according to standard operating procedures

  • Sound Education background GCSE or equivalent
  • NVQ 2 pharmacy services or equivalent

Experience

  • Previous experience of working in a hospital aseptic unit or licensed sterile manufacturing facility

  • Ability to work to Standard Operating Procedures accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Manual dexterity in order to draw up accurate volumes using syringes & needles
  • Ability to work in confined places such as a pharmaceutical isolator
  • Accuracy/attention to detail
  • To have a positive attitude and the ability to recognise and embrace new ideas
  • Ability to work and communicate well within a team
  • Ability to recognise limits of own competencies and to refer and seek advice from colleagues
