This Cancer & Aseptics maternity leave cover role provides an excellent opportunity to develop valuable experience in cancer and aseptic services. They will be an integral member of the cancer multidisciplinary team. The post will provide training opportunities in haematology and oncology ranging from paediatrics to adults, clinical trials and end of life care. The post holder will gain valuable aseptic experience in our aseptic suite and they will liaise closely with the chemotherapy trained nurses on the day units and the inpatient haematology ward where we offer stem cell transplants. 
The role requires a proactive positive approach and an excellent team player. BHT Cancer service is growing rapidly, and newly NICE approved medications are being initiated and the service offering is being developed. As an integral part of the team this role will be working with the multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the patient journey is as smooth as possible. 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

This is a training post that assists in providing a clinical service to the oncology and haematology ward and cancer day units. The post holder will also provide pharmacist support to the aseptic services unit, hospice and will be involved in clinical trial provision for cancer patients.

They will provide specialised professional education and support to pharmacy and clinical staff working in the relevant areas to improve standard and quality of patient care.

On a rotational basis support the aseptic unit manager in the day to day running of the pharmacy aseptic unit.

Support and deputise for the Advanced Pharmacist for Cancer and Aseptics.

Clinically verify prescriptions for patients in a timely and accurate manner. To accuracy check dispensed medicines and support logistics to deliver correct cancer and supportive medicines accurately and on time.

Work with clinical teams at the point of care delivery to understand patients medication history, clinical needs and providing medicines knowledge as required to support the patient journey.

Support patients understanding of their medicines through counselling, drug history taking, and medicines reconciliation. The role is expected to act in a compassionate, empathetic, and professional manner that supports the pharmacy department and trusts values.

  • Completed or undertaking a post-graduate diploma in pharmacy practice or recognised equivalent
  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (MRPharms) or equivalent professional body (BOPA) etc.

Experience

  • Experience of hospital pharmacy at Post Registration Pharmacist level
  • Delivery of pharmacy services to a range of specialities
  • Evidence of significant relevant Continuing Professional Development
