Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST6+) in Cardiology (Cardiac Imaging).
 
This post is available from 03 September 2025 until 01 September 2026.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with and under the mentorship of imaging cardiologists and radiologists to gain skills in running and reporting complex echo and cardiac CT lists as well as CMRI.
 
There is no General Medicine component to this post. There is no out-of-hours on-call or weekend cover associated with this post.

In order to be considered applicants must meet the following essential criteria;

  • MRCP
  • Completion of Specialty Registrar or equivalent training to ST6 level, having passed the associated competencies

Please note that this post does not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval or training recognition.
 
Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Part of the remit of the Imaging post is to enhance the quality and efficiency of the stress echo service, by providing an in reach review of patients admitted with chest pain, identifying those who may benefit from early (same-day) stress echo or other forms of imaging and linking in with those services to ensure rapid assessment, treatment and discharge of patients as appropriate.

The Echocardiography Department has a large team of BSE-accredited Cardiac Physiologists, supported by three consultants, delivering 18,000 standard and complex studies (transoesophageal, stress and bubble echo) per annum. There is active training of SpRs tailored to their experience and need and the Department recently received re-accreditation with BSE.
