Job overview
We are delighted to offer an apprenticeship in Division D (Dermatology) for a Business Administrator Level 3 Apprentice. The Dermatology & Paediatric Dermatology Service is one of Trust’s largest outpatient specialties that operates multiple daily clinics and outpatient surgical procedure lists. The service is mainly located in Clinic 7 but also manages peripheral clinics and procedure lists at Newmarket, Saffron Walden, Ely CDC and some GP surgeries.
There are a number of sub-specialty clinics including paediatric dermatology, complex eczema, psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa; photodermatology, contact dermatitis, male & female genital disease, nurse-led acne clinic and leg ulcer clinics. There is also a phototherapy unit which treats predominantly psoriasis and eczema patients. As well as minor excisions and biopsies, Dermatology also carry out Mohs surgery for skin lesions and photodynamic therapy for sun damage and some forms of early skin cancer.
Main duties of the job
As an apprentice, you will support the Dermatology administrative team with a variety of tasks, including:
- Booking patient appointments and procedures
- Monitoring patient pathways
- Responding to patient and staff queries
- Helping to ensure clinics and procedure lists are well organised and fully utilised, with particular attention to supporting patient pathways, including those relating to cancer care
We are looking for an organised, enthusiastic and motivated individual who is eager to learn, has a positive attitude, and is keen to develop new skills. You should have good communication and organisational skills, pay attention to detail, be able to work well as part of a team, and remain calm and organised when managing a busy workload. Throughout the apprenticeship you will receive training and support to develop the knowledge and skills needed to provide an efficient, accurate and professional administrative service.

The contract length is for 24 months and the apprenticeship salary on commencement is £16,258; after 12 months in post this will increase to the National Minimum Wage. The Trust is proud of its values of Together – Safe, Kind and Excellent and looks to provide its staff with support, training and progression opportunities; towards the end of your apprenticeship contract, you will be supported by the Apprenticeship Team to apply for permanent employment. We have a high percentage of previous apprentices who have successfully gained further employment within the Trust with opportunities to gain higher qualifications.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy NHS department and be supported to earn as you learn whilst undertaking a nationally recognised qualification – the Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will receive support to gain a wide range of experience and skills, supervision and mentoring, whilst learning about patient waiting times, pathway management, and the importance of delivering high-quality administrative support and customer service skills within a healthcare environment. You will also develop your communication, organisational and teamwork skills while balancing a range of tasks in a fast-paced setting. It is ideal if this type of role is new to you, where you can learn and build these new skills. You will need to have a minimum GCSE Grade 4/C or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English. You will be enthusiastic, have a positive work ethic, be keen to learn and able to work in a team.
There is no upper age limit on joining us as an apprentice.

- English & Maths GCSE at Grade 4/C or above or an equivalent level of Literacy and Numeracy skills (If you do not have any qualifications for literacy or numeracy a test can be taken, so this should not put you off applying)
