The Radiopharmacy unit is looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated person to join our friendly and dynamic team to provide a high quality radiopharmaceutical service. The role as a Radiopharmacy Production Assistant would be ideal for someone with a background in Pharmacy Technical services, Nuclear Medicine or Good Manufacturing Practice. For the right candidate who shows an aptitude for the job we would encourage further training to help with future career development.

The prime function of the department is the preparation of diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals, in a safe and efficient manner according to Good Manufacturing Practice and National Standards.

Main duties of the job

•    Perform general duties in Radiopharmacy. Primarily performing and maintaining a high level of hygiene in all areas of the Radiopharmacy. 
•    Help with transfer sanitisation of manufacturing materials into the clean room. Participate in preparing cleanroom gowns for laundry. 
•    Arrange the safe disposal of radioactive materials. 
•    Other duties to support a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the timely dispatch of radioactive products. 
•    To provide dispensing support and dispensing checks. Routine daily constancy checks of all dose calibrators. Top up of all blank labels.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of good general education (GCSE Level C/4 and above, or equivalent)
  • Obtained/working towards NVQ level 2 in pharmacy services or equivalent
  • Literate and numerate to degree required for post
Desirable criteria
  • East and South east England 2 day Aseptic Dispensing Course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Must be able to perform calculations and equipment calibration
  • Must understand a wide range of SOP’s or work practices
  • Understanding of aseptic processing
  • Experience of working in a hospital aseptic unit or similar environment

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Basic computer literacy (word, excel).
  • Must display a full understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practise) or equivalent.
  • Must have an understanding of Quality Management Systems.
  • Maintaining clean and hygienic work environments.
  • Contamination control (microbial)
  • Awareness of Radiation decontamination control
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of clean environments and / or radiation
  • Trust policy & procedures - knowledge of COSSH
