Job overview

We have two opportunities available for a Dosimetrist to join the Radiotherapy Department. The permanent role is 30 hours per week and the fixed term/secondment role is 37.5 hours per week.

You will work within the Treatment Planning, Tomotherapy, brachytherapy and mould room areas (as required) as part of a team or independently, providing a highly specialist clinical and technical service. 

You will be responsible, together with physicists and other members of the planning group, for preparing and checking treatment plans for patients undergoing radiotherapy. Within the Mould Room, you will have direct contact with patients and work with Doctors and Radiographers to produce individualised immobilisation devices.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within the treatment planning, Tomotherapy, brachytherapy and mould room areas (as required) as part of a team or independently, providing a highly specialist clinical and technical service.  

The post holder will be responsible, together with physicists and other members of the planning group, for preparing and checking treatment plans for patients undergoing radiotherapy. The post holder will be involved in the clinical developments of the department through the introduction of new techniques and the training of others.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Diploma of the College of Radiographers or B.Sc. Hons equivalent.
  • Health Care Professions Council registration OR
  • BSc in Clinical Technology (or equivalent)
  • Completion of IPEM accredited Technologist Training scheme
  • On Register of Clinical Technologists
  • Candidates who meet the other requirements of the post but are working towards completing the training required for RCT will be considered for appointment on Annex 21 of Band 6
Desirable criteria
  • Further Education in Treatment Planning MSc level modules
  • Training received or working towards: - M.Sc. level award - Research methodologies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Radiotherapy treatment planning experience: - Post graduate experience with the production of complex treatment plans.
  • Training and education: - Informal teaching and training of a variety of healthcare professionals
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of leading on research and audit
  • Experience of checking treatment plans
  • NHS experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of principles and practice of radiotherapy and oncology
  • Detailed knowledge of principles, practice and limitations of radiotherapy planning.
  • Detailed knowledge of specialist planning techniques
  • Knowledge of and use of different information sources
  • Knowledge and application of national regulations relating to ionising radiation for medical exposure (IR(ME)R)
  • Knowledge of treatment plan checking
Desirable criteria
  • Good awareness of different Treatment Planning systems
  • Knowledge of the capabilities, and limitations of Tomotherapy
