An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated healthcare professionals to join our ENT team as Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners (tACPs) within the ENT department Unit at Cambridge University Hospitals.

This is a unique opportunity to develop advanced clinical practice skills within a fast-paced and innovative surgical service while undertaking a fully supported MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice. Working alongside experienced Consultant Surgeons, resident doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will gain expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients presenting with acute ENT conditions.

As a trainee, you will be supported through a structured development programme encompassing the four pillars of advanced practice: expert clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research. You will develop advanced assessment, diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills while contributing to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care. On successful completion of the MSc programme and clinical competency portfolio, you will progress to a qualified Advanced Clinical Practitioner role within ENT.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for ambitious clinicians with significant experience in ENT who are passionate about delivering exceptional patient care, developing their clinical expertise, and contributing to the future of advanced practice within otolaryngology. This role offers an excellent opportunity to become part of a dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team and to help shape the development of advanced practice within ENT. The post will participate in a rota that includes working weekends.

Main duties

The post holder will be practicing as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner within their designated specialty/directorate. They will be expected to undertake the MSc in advanced clinical practice and complete the associated clinical practice competencies and portfolio required for the program and be deemed competent by the clinical supervisor and university.

The role will encompass the skills of assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment within an agreed scope of practice under supervision by a medical practitioner or qualified ACP. They will be supported to gain the necessary experience in line with the four pillars of advanced practice

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional qualification and registration with UK Professional Governing Body e.g. NMC or HCPC
  • First level degree in a relevant subject
  • Significant post registration experience and demonstrable experience in relevant specialty area of ENT
  • Willingness to complete a MSc in advanced practice or provide evidence of equivalent
  • Willingness to complete portfolio as provided
  • Intermediate life support
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant Masters level education
  • Advanced life support (as required for clinical area)
  • Leadership qualification
  • Teaching qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Well-developed IT skills
  • Awareness of relevant national and local key performance indicators
  • Awareness of relevant local and national strategies
  • Awareness of implications of advanced practice
  • Demonstrable experience working within ENT field
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in recruitment and retention matters, staff appraisal and performance management
  • NHS experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant post qualification experience, with experience at senior level in services
  • Team leadership experience, including effective staff management including HR issues, sickness, grievance and disciplinary management / investigation.
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced clinical skills in managing the deteriorating patient
