Job overview
Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST3-5 / ST6+) in Gastroenterology and Hepatology working across two specialities at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
There are two rotations in this post across a 12 month period to commence from 02 September 2026 until 31 August 2027 as follows:
Rotation 1 – Gastroenterology to commence from 02 September 2026 to 02 March 2027.
Rotation 2 – Hepatology to commence from 03 March 2027 to 31 August 2027.
Main duties of the job
This post provides an opportunity to develop Gastroenterology and Hepatology practice at one of the world's leading teaching hospitals, including experience within a state of the art Endoscopy facility and a world-renowned Hepatology service.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to gain exposure to inpatient and outpatient Hepatology, whilst developing their practice in Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy with associated lists, training lists and research opportunities. The focus of the post is training in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Therapeutic Endoscopy.
Please note that these posts do not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval or training recognition.
Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

Essential criteria
- Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at point of application
- MRCP or equivalent qualification
- Completion of Foundation Competencies
- Completion of a relevant Core Programme for Specialty Training or equivalent
- Minimum of 1 year experience in NHS employed at foundation level or above
- Logbook indicating validated experience of appropriate range and number of clinical procedures
- MBBS or equivalent qualification
Desirable criteria
- Up to date ALS or ATLS certification
- Other SpR equivalent experience in Gastroenterology training in the UK or equivalent

Depending on the candidate's interests and the availability of training capacity within the Department, there will be opportunities for training centred in EUS, ERCP or Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy including Colonoscopy EMR, Dilatation, Botox and Stenting, Balloon Enteroscopy and Video Capsule Endoscopy.
Applicants will also have an opportunity to develop their skills in the outpatient clinical setting through general and subspecialty Gastroenterology and Hepatology clinics. There will be a component of gastroenterology and hepatology inpatient management within this post.
Research opportunities are available, and the timetable is flexible according to the successful candidate's training needs. Candidates interested in developing expertise across both specialties will have access to the wide range of clinical, educational and research opportunities available within the Department.
