Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Haematology (8PA) at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH), based at Addenbrooke's Hospital.

This post will strengthen our integrated clinical and laboratory haematology service, with leadership responsibilities for the general Haematology Laboratory in the trust and deputy leadership within the Specialist Haemoglobinopathy Team. The appointee will support immune haematology, thrombosis and haemostasis, diagnostic laboratory haematology and the regional red-cell apheresis network.

We are seeking an enthusiastic colleague committed to safe, kind and excellent care, multidisciplinary working, education, governance and service improvement. The post includes participation in the general medical haematology on-call rota, including support for Royal Papworth Hospital.

Interviews for this post will be held in person on 25 November 2026 at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. Specific details will be provided to shortlisted candidates.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work with consultant colleagues to deliver care for adults with general and non-malignant haematological disorders. Key duties include leading general Haematology Laboratory; acting as deputy lead for adult Haemoglobinopathy services; contributing to haemoglobinopathy, Immune haematology and Thrombophilia clinics; and supporting inpatient and GP liaison. They will provide consultant governance for red-cell apheresis in collaboration with UCLH and partner services in Ipswich and Luton, participate in blood-film reporting and laboratory supervision, and contribute to teaching for resident doctors, biomedical scientists and medical students. They will take part in clinical governance, audit, continuing professional development and the general haematology consultant-of-the-week and out-of-hours rotas.

They will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Haematology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Working for our organisation
