Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST3-5/ST6+)/ Senior in the Department of Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, part of Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This post is available from 07 September 2026 for a period of 12 months.
Main duties of the job
This post is geared towards furthering a career in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation with specific experience in HCC. This is available to applicants who are within or beyond Gastroenterology/Hepatology training who are either:
(1) want time out of program to pursue a clinical interest (out of program experience: OOPE),
or
(2) who are at the end of training and want post-CCT experience in tertiary Hepatology and Liver Transplantation.
In order to be considered applicants must meet the essential criteria as noted in the person specification section of the job description.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
A breadth of learning opportunities is available, depending on the applicant’s preference. These include Tertiary Hepatology, Liver Transplantation and Research. A contribution to the HCC service is expected for the duration of the post. The Department undertakes basic, translational and clinical research in alcoholic hepatitis, HCC, NASH, cholangiocyte biology and PBC in partnership with the University of Cambridge and Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. The successful candidates would all contribute to the Hepatology on call rota.
This post is not accredited as part of a specialty training programme but could be used for purposes as stated above.

Essential criteria
- Full MRCP
- MBBS or equivalent qualification
- Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the GMC at time of application
- Completion of Foundation Competencies
- Completion of a Core Medical Programme for Specialty Training or equivalent
- Completion of at least 2 years clinical training as Gastroenterology StR or equivalent, including Hepatology experience
- Logbook indicating validated experience
Desirable criteria
- Publication of an original article or completion of a research project
- At least 6 months experience in a tertiary liver centre. At least 3 years as a Specialty Registrar or equivalent
- Ability to undertake research projects and audit
