Job overview

We are looking for an experienced Midwife who understands how instrumental the Matron’s role is in promoting high standards of clinical care, patient experience, continuous patient safety and quality improvement.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced midwifery leader who is looking to develop the next step in their career. The role will encompass leadership in antenatal clinic Inc.; Diabetes, postnatal and antenatal areas.

You will be responsible for the provision of expert senior leadership, utilising your management skills by supporting the clinical areas to ensure that a high quality standard of care is provided to women and birthing people using the service as well as supporting and developing the clinical staff to the best of their ability within their roles. 

We are looking for a driven and passionate Midwife who is ready for the challenge of a matron's post.

You will need significant post-registration senior leadership experience to join our midwifery management team as a maternity Band 8a matron. You will need to be a strong, compassionate authentic leader, with expert knowledge and have a passion to deliver the best maternity service to the women, birthing people and families of Cambridgeshire.

Main duties of the job

The matrons’ fundamental role is to improve the patient experience.  The underpinning principle is to have a professional leader who is accountable for co-coordinating safe, high quality care to improve patients’ experience.
By delivering on the 10 key roles of the Matron the post holder will:

Provide professional and managerial leadership to the relevant midwifery teams, ensuring the provision of high quality and responsive care to patients and their families at all times.

Work in partnership with the Deputy/Head of Midwifery and the senior Midwifery and wider Divisional Management Team to ensure effective and efficient management of services to meet agreed standards within the resources available. 

Be accountable for all clinical aspects of quality within the service. 

Maintain a visible presence where patients, carers, staff and visitors can turn for assistance and upon whom they can rely to ensure that the fundamental of care are met. This includes working clinical shifts. 

Support the Deputy/Head of Midwifery by leading and developing Midwives, Midwifery practice and improvements in care.

Performance metrics in areas of responsibility at all levels, ensuring agreed targets are met, and leading plans for improvements at unit level.

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • First level degree
  • Up-to-date professional portfolio demonstrating evidence of personal and professional development
  • Evidence of a leadership/management course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Masters level education in a related area
  • NLS Course

Experience
