Job overview
The physiotherapy service is looking for an individual to join our highly specialised neuroscience physiotherapy inpatient team. This static job opportunity is available as a secondment or fixed term contract, ending in February 2027.
You will be working with patients with diverse neurological impairments in primarily the inpatient neurosurgical setting. You will gain vast experience in the assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning of patients under your care and gain skills in acute respiratory care including tracheostomy management.
You will work with the team leads in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Physiotherapy Service provided to neurologically impaired patients throughout Addenbrooke’s hospital on a day-to-day basis.

Main duties of the job
To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse medical, neurological and musculoskeletal presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working unsupervised. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
To undertake delegated management roles in support of the clinical team.
To supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students, this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.
To undertake evidence-based practice, audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice within each rotation. Make recommendations to clinical lead for changes to practice by the team. May lead implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.
To maintain specialist respiratory physiotherapy competency in order to participate in the out of hour's respiratory on-call physiotherapy service and to assist in the training of junior members of staff to a level of agreed competency.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy
- State Registration
- Evidence of relevant post-graduate courses / CPD
Desirable criteria
- Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
- Relevant validated clinical courses
- Involvement in special interest groups i.e. AGILE, ACPIN
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant clinical work at band 6 level providing a broad range of experience in respiratory, elderly care and neurological conditions.
- Experience of treating neurological conditions
- Experience in respiratory care, including critical care
- Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and/or MDT
- Contributing to clinical education of less experience staff, students or assistants
- Competency to participate in weekend work and respiratory on call including experience of artificial airways.
- Significant postgraduate NHS experience
Desirable criteria
- Advanced neurological experience
- Knowledge of workings of community services within rehabilitation.
- Experience in mentoring students.
- Experience in a wide range of junior rotations
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of neurological, respiratory and rehabilitation physiotherapy.
