Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Static Band 6 / Deputy Team Lead within the Physiotherapy Team for the Department of Medicine for the Elderly. The department provides varied experience and learning opportunities for areas like medical short stay, acute frailty unit, elderly care core wards (complex long stay patients) and Falls MDT Clinic run jointly with our renowned geriatrician consultants. Our team also covers certain medical specialties like infectious diseases, liver and renal conditions.
We have a varied caseload comprising complex neurological, respiratory, MSK, acute medical and orthopaedic patients. The post-holder will provide clinical expertise and leadership to these wards and support to our junior staff.
Please note that as part of the interviews process a practical element is required.
Main duties of the job
To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of frail elderly patients with diverse medical, respiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working unsupervised. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required.
To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
To supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students. This would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.
To undertake evidence-based practice, audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead for changes to practice by the team. May lead implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.
To maintain specialist respiratory physiotherapy competency in order to participate in the out of hour’s respiratory physiotherapy service.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy (or equivalent)
- State Registration
- Evidence of relevant postgraduate level education/CPD
Desirable criteria
- Membership professional body e.g. The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy or professional network
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience as a band 6 in a broad range of specialities including respiratory, elderly care, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions
- Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and/or MDT
- Contributing to clinical education of less experienced staff or assistants
Desirable criteria
- Band 6 NHS experience
- Experience in supervising students
- Experience in supervising others e.g. juniors and assistants
- Experience of working in a community setting
- Experience in conducting formal presentations
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good knowledge of Care of the Older Person, General Medicine, Respiratory, Neurological and Musculoskeletal conditions
