Job overview

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking skilled and motivated Band 6 Radiographers to join our General X‑ray team, rotating between Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Ely Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC).

This role is ideal for radiographers ready to take on greater responsibility, support day‑to‑day coordination of X‑ray services, mentor junior staff, and contribute to service development across both sites.

 You must demonstrate confident autonomous practice, including experience in theatres, general acute workflows, and managing varied clinical demands.

Main duties of the job

Rotate between CUH General X‑ray and Ely CDC

Perform high‑quality imaging independently and safely

Support daily workflow, coordination and prioritisation

Supervise Band 5 radiographers, apprentices and students

Participate in QA, audit, and service improvement

Uphold IR(ME)R, IRR and departmental safety standards

Represent CUH values: Safe, Kind, Excellent

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc in Diagnostic Radiography
  • HCPC Registration
  • Leadership course / willingness to complete
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of further relevant study

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Minimum of 1 year experience in all areas of X-ray since qualification
  • • Experience working autonomously in fluoroscopy, Theatres in addition to X-ray
  • • Experience in an acute hospital setting
  • • Experience working in a hospital with a minimum of 500 beds
  • • Extensive experience using ceiling mounted DR X-ray machines
  • • Experience of PACS & HIS/RIS systems
  • • Evidence of recent CPD relevant to X-ray
Desirable criteria
  • • Using CBCT
  • • Working with paediatrics
  • • Extension of job role e.g. RPS, m&h trainer, etc

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Open to the acquisition of new skills and knowledge
  • Have a sound understanding of general X-Ray anatomy, physics and safety
  • Have a working knowledge of PACS & HIS/RIS systems
  • Knowledge of local policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge IR(ME)R and IRR
  • Understanding of QSI
  • Accurate patient positioning
  • Good radiographic technique / adaptation of technique
  • Good knowledge of exposure factors
  • Ability to interpret clinical information on request forms accurately
  • Knowledge of trouble shooting equipment
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding and participation in audit and research in relation to service provision
  • Experience in research
  • Participation in QSI
