Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and forward-thinking Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine to join our expanding team at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
You will be working in a centre of excellence delivering comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services across trauma, neurology, and critical care pathways.
The postholder will be part of a consultant-led multidisciplinary team supporting patients with complex rehabilitation needs, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and links to academic and research networks via the University of Cambridge.
Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a Major Trauma Centre for the East of England and as part of that has a Hyperacute Rehabilitation Unit in Addenbrookes Hospital as well as 8 Level 2b neurorehabilitation beds.
The post holder will be expected to share the responsibility of providing Consultant cover to the Hyperacute Rehabilitation Unit as well as provide cover for the 4 Level 2b beds as part of the appointment. There is opportunity to expand any special interest that the post-holder wishes.
Main duties of the job
You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Rehabilitation Medicine or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Leadership is a key requirement of doctors’ professional work and this innovative programme is designed to support Consultants to hone the leadership and management skills they need to succeed at CUH.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The postholder will be expected to:
- Provide consultant-level leadership in the delivery of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation medicine services, with a focus on neurorehabilitation, major trauma, or critical care pathways, depending on interest and service needs.
- Supervise and support a skilled multidisciplinary team including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, neuropsychologists, and specialist nursing staff.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical pathways and service innovations across the Rehabilitation Medicine department.
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching and training, with academic opportunities available through the University of Cambridge.
- Engage in audit, service development, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support integrated working with regional partners including community rehabilitation and specialised commissioning services.
