Job overview
Are you a newly or recently qualified Speech and Language Therapist looking for an opportunity to work in a teaching hospital setting as part of a well- established, dynamic and supportive team?
We are looking for 2 SLTs to join us at CUH. The post-holders will be working in a rotational position across our adult acute and rehabilitation services. Rotations occur 6 monthly across the following specialties: Neurosciences, Stroke and Trauma Rehabilitation, DME, General/Acute Medicine.
Each team is well established, led by a Band 8 Senior Specialist Therapist, with highly specialist and specialist colleagues and new or recently qualified peers offering a wealth of opportunity for support and development.
Progression for newly qualified staff is well supported and tailored to the individual, with access to regular one to one supervision and training needs identified and catered for.

Main duties of the job
To contribute to the provision of specialist SLT services at Addenbrooke's Hospital.
To provide input to a defined caseload, prioritising needs and managing workload independently.
To contribute to the multi-disciplinary management of patients, taking a holistic approach to care.
To cover for colleagues as required in representation at relevant forums, e.g. Ward rounds, Clinics and Multidisciplinary team meetings.
To be proactive in contributing to the development of specialist services offered to patients referred.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech and language Therapy degree or equivalent qualification
- HCPC Registration
- RCSLT membership
Desirable criteria
- Dysphagia trained
- Preceptorship completed
Experience
Essential criteria
- Relevant* experience at undergraduate / post graduate level (pre-qualification) including placements and related work experience e.g. *acute setting / rehab setting *acute / stroke / neurological caseloads *swallowing disorders *communication partners etc.
Desirable criteria
- Post qualification working experience with adults with acquired disorders of communication and swallowing
- Post qualification experience working independently with dysphagia
- Caseload management experience
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Well established knowledge of a range of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions
- Understanding of the basic principles of clinical governance / audit and use of outcome measures
- Understanding of the roles of other professionals relevant to client group
- Knowledge of standards of record keeping
Skills
Essential criteria
- Sound clinical skills in the assessment and management of adults with acquired disorders of communication
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, including observation, listening and empathy skills
- Good auditory and perceptual discriminatory skills for analysis of voice and speech, including phonetic transcription
- Good presentation skills, both verbal and written
- Demonstrates ability to be an effective team member
- Problem solving skills
- Good analytical and reflection skills and developing clinical reasoning
- Prioritisation and organisational skills
- Computer skills for the preparation of reports, presentations and therapy materials
