Your main duties of the job are to support the delivery of Neuropsychological care to stroke and other brain injury survivors experiencing cognitive, emotional and behavioural difficulties post injury. Providing interventions under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist.
You will have opportunities to work closely with other multidisciplinary teams in the community, primary care, the acute neuro rehab team, and other external agencies. There is an in-service training programme in place and an intensive Trust and Local induction will be provided. The post is within a multidisciplinary team and you will work alongside Neuro Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Nurses and Rehab Assistants.
The post will be based in the South of the county with your base being either Brookfields or Hinchingbrooke Hospital however there maybe times where they are expected to cover further across the county.
The successful candidate will work in an agile manner using virtual consultation to manage their caseload of patients, having access to a smart phone and laptop to support this.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic Band 5 Assistant psychologist within Neuro Psychology to support the delivery of Neuro Psychology rehab as in-reach to the inpatient rehab beds, as well as working with patients in their own homes within the Early supported Discharge for Stroke and Community Neuro Rehab team for a 12 month fixed term contract. You will play a vital part in supporting patients with cognitive and psychosocial challenges as part of a MDT to achieve their potential whilst instigating and delivering better health, better care and better outcomes for our patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Please note for this role you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines. You will need to hold a full UK driving licence* and have use of a vehicle. - To support and enhance the professional psychological care of clients of the Integrated Stroke ESD and Community Neuro Rehabilitation Service across inpatient and community settings.
- To provide psychological assessment and neurophsychological interventions under the supervision of a qualified psychologist. Working independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologist and within the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.
- To assist in clinically related administration, conducting audits, collection of data and statistics, development of audit and/or research projects and teaching.
- To attend psychology supervision on a weekly basis and engage in CPD as agreed with supervisor and professional manager.

Person specification
Education / Qualifications
Essential criteria
- An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology.
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Desirable criteria
- Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Some experience of working with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities in a health or social services setting.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Some experience of conducting psychological assessments (neuropsychological/ standardised assessments).
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of an assistant psychologist post or equivalent.
- Previous experience of working with people with neurological conditions
- Lived experience of mental health.
Skills & Abilities
Essential criteria
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive, and in delivering sensitive information.
- Able to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively including reflection.
- Interpersonally calm and able to diffuse difficult, volatile situations.
- An ability to work effectively with the Multidisciplinary team while maintaining boundaries.
- An ability to work independently (planning own workload), reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
- Good organisational skills including time management but the ability to be flexible.
- Experience using computers for databases or data analysis, especially SPSS for windows & Excel.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of delivering evidence based psychologically informed interventions.
- Experience of conducting service evaluation/audit / research.
- Experience of working directly with people with neurological conditions.
- Experience of working with carers.
Knowledge & Understanding
Essential criteria
- Some knowledge of the theory behind neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation
- An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to people with neurological conditions.
- Some knowledge of behavioural management advice
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people living with long term neurological conditions, including the issues of emotional adjustment.
- Some knowledge of models regarding emotional adjustment to long term conditions.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the psychological issues relevant to existential issues
- Knowledge of Mindfulness and Compassion Focused Therapy
Physical Requirements

- Must have access to a personal car and the ability to drive independently around the locality, due to the radius covered and lack of public transport in some area
