Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for supervising the Immunology laboratory and assist in the development of staff within a progressive department where participation in developing our service is actively encouraged.
You should be HCPC registered with an appropriate MSc, IBMS HSD and/or be FIBMS (or equivalent) and well versed in the workings of a routine Immunology laboratory. You will also need to be enthusiastic and highly motivated, computer literate and familiar with working to UKAS standards.
The successful candidate may need to participate in the 24/7 rota for the Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory. Full training programme would be completed if required.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
- IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma (Immunology ) / MSc in Biomedical Sciences / FIBMS status
- Evidence of on-going CPD
- Specialist portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry and/or Immunology
Desirable criteria
- Any other relevant qualification such as Training certificate, leadership and management etc.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Sound knowledge of Immunology practise underpinned by theoretical and practical experience
- Competence and problem solving in an automated environment
- Awareness of current professional issues
- Familiarity with ISO15189 systems and standards
- Broad understanding of Quality Control, good Quality Management and Audit knowledge (Including CAPA/DATIX Investigations)
- Good practical knowledge of health and safety issues including COSHH, fire regulations and risk assessments.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of leading a laboratory section
- Experience of staff management
- Knowledge of Winpath LIMS system
- Experience within an HCPC registered NHS training laboratory

- Ability to organise and manage own and others work/time management, coordinate work flow and determine staff rotas.
- Able to represent the department at internal meetings
- Ability to assess and take appropriate action in urgent situations
- Competent in a broad range of Immunology practical techniques
- Competent in the interpretation and technical validation of results
- Technical problem solving e.g. equipment failure, quality control failure
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English
- Able to master complex facts, reach appropriate conclusions and formulate required/relevant responses
- Able to comply with policies and procedures within the constraints set by the laboratory, Trust and other regulating and professional bodies.
- Literate in laboratory computerisation and PC office applications
- Self-motivated and able to work within a team culture
Desirable criteria
- Experience with ImmunoCAP 250's, Optilite, Quantalyser 3000, Dynex DS2, Capillarys 3 Octa.
