Applications are invited for the above post in the newly formed North West Anglia NHS Trust (NWAFT). Peterborough and Stamford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust formally merged with Hinchingbrooke Hospital on 1st April 2017, to form the new Trust (on 3 sites). This is a fixed term post based to cover maternity leave at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. It is expected to end 17th November 2026.
This appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England).
NWAFT serves a diverse and fast-growing population of 700,000 people and employs around 6,000 staff. NWAFT is commissioned by Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICB and Lincolnshire ICB.
Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Maternity Departments have been rated as ‘Good’ by CQC in June 2023. They have fully equipped obstetric and midwifery led birthing units, fetal medicine scanning and high risk obstetric services in addition to high quality modern inpatient and outpatient Gynaecology services. The Maternity IT system is K2 with all 3 modules- Antenatal, Intrapartum and Postnatal.
There are about 2100 births per annum at Hinchingbrooke Hospital (HH). Peterborough City Hospital (PCH) delivers around 4100 women per annum. Both units have a Midwifery-led birthing Unit (MLBU) alongside the Consultant led Unit.
Main duties of the job
The standard job plan is of 10 programmed activities (PAs). The job plan does not have any out of hours on call activities.
Applications are welcome from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.
It is expected that the successful candidate will be based on one site but there may be a need for working across sites in the future depending on unit needs.

Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS (or equivalent)
- MRCOG or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration
- ATSM Advanced Labour Ward Practice or equivalence either subspecialisation or ‘grandfathering’
- ATSM Acute Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy or equivalence either subspecialisation or ‘grandfathering’
Desirable criteria
- CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within six months of Appointments Advisory Committee
Experience & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience of practical intrapartum Obstetrics and Gynaecology at secondary provider level within last 12 months
- Teaching/Leadership roles at post- and undergraduate levels
- Able to perform Laparoscopic Surgery for Gynaecology emergencies e.g ectopic pregnancy and ovarian cyst
Desirable criteria
- Independent practice in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within last 12 months
- MOET/ALSO instructor/PROMPT course
- Able to perform transvaginal ultrasound scan in Gynaecology
Academic Achievements
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate successful participation in audit within 12 months
- Evidence of Attendance and presentation [incl poster] at national or international Obstetric and gynae meetings within 12 months
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of completed and published research
