Job overview

The post holder will play a key role in the co-ordination of the delivery of the Clinical Research, in all Clinical Directorates. Provide support for Chief and Principal Investigators and their research teams within the clinical directorates to enable the efficient and high quality set up and running of Clinical trials within the Trust in compliance with the legislation of the Health Research Authority (HRA), Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), National Research Ethics Service and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Guidelines. 

The role encompasses working proactively to manage your own workload effectively and efficiently as part of a team, autonomously and with colleagues to carry out a wide range of duties to support the Care Quality Team. There will also be various responsibilities and deadlines; therefore, given the nature of this post, the post holder may be required to work in a flexible way to respond to work patterns and internal and external deadlines and requests.

Main duties of the job

  • taking an overarching view of the clinical trials to assess, arrange and confirm capacity and capability to deliver within the Trust ensuring that they are meeting the UK Governments set up targets
  • auditing and monitoring Clinical Research within directorates to ensure research practice meets the quality and standards set out in the UK Policy Framework for H&SC
  • provide guidance and training on Clinical Research practice and the use of the Research Management System
  • Support research teams with analysing study protocols for the Trusts capacity and capability of running clinical research trials at both a financial, resource and practical level.  Liaise with clinical and non-clinical staff to support directorates to ensure all requirements for each study have been negotiated and are in place
  • Where barriers exist for the delivery of Clinical Trials within directorates, work on mapping exercises with the research teams to overcome these hurdles with assistance from the R&D Manager
  • Analyse, investigate and report on national research benchmarks to the clinical directorates.  Identify barriers to patient recruitment to time and target and implement solutions and action plans with the R&D Manager as required to overcome these barriers.  Where necessary, to be responsible for forwarding or uploading trial data/accrual in a timely manner to the UK CRN coordinating centre and information Manager.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or substantial experience in supporting clinical research
Desirable criteria
  • GCP training or willingness to undertake

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Clinical Research
  • Awareness of the Research environment within the NHS
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Office Programmes
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise workload
  • Knowledge/ understanding of ICH GCP
  • Knowledge/ understanding of Data Protection
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to accurately interpret, analyse and present data
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of research design and methods
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of using NHS systems
  • Knowledge of LPMS systems and their use in research management
  • Knowledge of tools supporting commercial and non-commercial clinical research in the NHS
  • Management of Research Experience
