Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job Purpose: 

This is a 10 PA post with Cambridgeshire Community Services (CCS). 

Assessment and management of children with neurodevelopmental disorders including autism, ADHD and learning disability (either individually or as part of a multi-disciplinary team).  

Provide healthcare to children up to 19 years of age in a local SEND school this includes medical advice to children related to their learning needs, multi-disciplinary assessment and management of children with complex physical disability. This would include supporting transition plans for children within that provision and safeguarding support. This may include supporting advanced care plans and end of life support with other agencies.  

This post is designed to support a pre-existing team to support our community paediatric services for children in Cambridgeshire. 

The post will predominantly cover neurodevelopmental clinics for pre-school and school aged children as well as undertaking clinical care of children with neurodisability and supporting the child protection rota for non-urgent child protection medicals. 

The postholder may be asked to cover children in care medicals and training can be offered for this. 

The post covers all of Cambridgeshire and we share services with Peterborough. There are opportunities to develop expertise in specific areas within the post according to the applicant’s interests and experience.

Cambridgeshire Community Services (CCS) provides child health services to children in Cambridgeshire and is part of the Cambridge and Peterborough ICS.  

We provide a range of services for children with neurodevelopmental difficulties and complex physical disability in community, acute and school based clinics across the county. We also provide a non-urgent safeguarding rota which the successful candidate will support. 

We already have well established MDT working and there are opportunities to develop special interests according to expertise.

We are based in bases at the Peacock Centre, Brookfields Hospital in Cambridge, The Oaktree Centre in Huntingdon, New Horse Fair Clinic in Wisbech and Alan Conway Court in Doddington Hospital as well as the CDC in Addenbrookes hospital. 

We are a team of 11 Consultants, 2 Specialist/Specialty doctors, 2 Psychologists (Band 8b and 7) and a Nurse (Band 7). We work closely together with collocated therapy and nursing teams and have close working links with Education (SEND services), CAMH, Learning disability and local acute sector, Cambridge University Hospital and NWAFT.  We also have GRID community paediatric and neurodisability trainees attached to the department and support teaching of medical students.

We are an enthusiastic group of clinicians who are committed to improving the life outcomes of these children and families. We are always looking to improve services and explore innovative strategies to meet the challenges of providing care. We are research active and support the education of medical students, Community and Neurodisability Grid trainees. We consistently receive excellent feedback from trainees.  CCS was rated as outstanding at the last CQC inspection and has been placed 4th in national league table by NHS England for non-acute trusts. 

Communication  

The post holder will, be expected to have excellent communication skills verbally and written. 

MDT work will be expected with:

1. Community team –paediatricians, psychologists and community nurses
2. Members of the extended team including Speech and Language Therapists, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
3. Community nurses
4. Educational colleagues, SEND, SENCOs, Educational Psychologists
5. CAMH colleagues
6. Acute paediatric colleagues
7. Social services

People Management

1. Maintaining own professional development via annual appraisal.
2. Teaching and supervision of Community Paediatrics to Paediatric Specialty Trainees alongside other centres in the Eastern Deanery. Trainees from other allied health professions may also be attached to our team.
3. Support good medical practice through clinical supervision, education and training, reviews of safety and quality, team working and clinical leadership.  

Research & Development Activity  

1. The post-holder will be encouraged to undertake research as part of their clinical practice and CPD with support from the CCS Research Team. CCS is research active and there are many opportunities to develop research interest both within CCs and with other agencies.  
2. There are regular internal CPD activities for clinical staff and multi-disciplinary training with colleagues from other professional groups disciplines and external agencies.
3. There is an active Community Paediatric clinical network across the east of England which meets twice yearly.
4. We have close working links with Cambridge University Hospitals and CAMH and there are many research opportunities both clinically and educationally. 

Clinical and Practice Governance

1. Maintaining Good Medical Practice. Contributing to the development of patient safety, service improvement and training within the team.
2. The post-holder will be required to work within the clinical governance framework for CCS NHS Trust and will be required to participate in service improvement, quality assurance, and clinical effectiveness and risk management activities as required by CCS NHS Trust and the department.
3. You must be registered with GMC, and it is your responsibility to maintain your professional registration and be compliant with the revalidation process.
4. Time is allocated within the job plan to support professional activities including CPD. The post holder must comply with mandatory training provided by the Trust as judged suitable for the post which will be 8.5 PA DCC and 1.5 SPA/CPD (0.25 PA for trainee supervision).
5. Participate in annual appraisal and job planning.
6. Maintain strict confidentiality with regards to any patient/family/staff/records and information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
7. Comply with the Trust Information Governance and Information Security policies. 
8. Adhere to the Trust risk assessment and risk management processes.
9. Adhere to infection control policies and procedures.
10. Undertake mandatory training and any other training relevant to the role as required by Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.  
11. Participation in audit cycles and service development as required.
12. Provide patients and their families /carers with information on standards they should expect from the team.
