We have an exciting opportunity for 2x band 6 specialist occupational therapists to join the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICS Staff Support Hub.  If you are an occupational therapist wanting to make a real difference to the health and wellbeing of health and social care colleagues by providing vocational support then please get in touch!

The role of the Staff Support Hub Specialist Occupational Therapist is to bring an occupational focus to the support of staff across our ICS.  This will include holding a 1:1 clinical caseload, facilitating groups, webinars and workshops for staff across the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care System (ICS).  This post will be part of a team delivering high quality practice based on best evidence, and meaningful outcomes can be demonstrated.

This role would be well suited to an experienced occupational therapist with knowledge and skills around vocational approaches, mental health or management of long term/chronic conditions.

The overall focus of this team is to support individuals and populations of health and social care staff to remain well in work.

Main duties of the job

  • To work as a member of the Staff Support Hub, providing high quality practice that produces meaningful and demonstrable vocational outcomes, based on best evidence.
  • To contribute to ongoing evaluation of the Staff Support Hub 
  • To apply a high level of understanding of occupation and vocational rehabilitation; provide specialist vocational assessments, advice and interventions within the Staff Support Hub using a holistic approach.
  • To identify people’s needs, agree goals and provide appropriate interventions, including onward referral (e.g. to specialist mental health services) as required.
  • To be responsible for own caseload and undertake assessment of staff, including via video call, phone call and/or face to face
  • To keep the person at the centre of care, using shared decision making principles.
  • To prioritise all referrals according to clinical need and to allocate or sign post appropriately.
  • To work closely with the Staff Support Hub team to ensure a holistic approach to employee rehabilitation, psychological issues, work life balance and wellbeing as a whole.
  • To provide specialist advice and guidance to professionals from other disciplines such as occupational health colleagues and managers.
  • To promote the Staff Support Hub and raise awareness of the service
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner within the Staff Support Hub
  • To provide group and 1:1 interventions

Main Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To be responsible for the management of a specialist clinical caseload with guidance from the Staff Support Hub Advanced Practitioner Occupational Therapist.
  2. To ensure effective assessment as part of the Staff Support Hub team and undertake occupational therapy assessment and treatment interventions for staff with psychological needs and/or long term conditions using high level clinical reasoning skills.
  3. To work within the RCOT codes of practice and the HCPC professional guidelines.
  4. Assist in maintaining high professional standards by monitoring workload and treatment methods.
  5. To undertake holistic occupational therapy assessment with people with complex vocational needs making use of high level specialist clinical reasoning skills.
  6. Attend reviews and meetings relevant to the staff member in relation to health and wellbeing.
  7. To plan, carry out and evaluate health and wellbeing educational and awareness groups (either online or in person) in conjunction with the Staff Support Hub team.
  8. To apply the principles of occupational science as appropriate.
  9. To apply a recognised model of practice as appropriate.
  10. To use evidence-based practice to ensure clinical care
  11. To use outcome measures as appropriate.
  12. To promote independence through vocational and occupational engagement.
  13. To conduct risk assessments, health & safety assessments and to follow Trust reporting procedures.
  14. To provide health and wellbeing support and advice to health, social care, third sector and not-for-profit sector staff members across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Person specification

Education/qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree or equivalent, e.g. BSc, MSc or Diploma entry level qualification into the O.T. profession.
  • Current HCPC Registration
  • Documented evidence of own continuing professional development and application
  • Ability to travel between sites
Desirable criteria
  • Member of RCOT work specialist section
  • Standardised Assessment Course
  • Leadership training

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post-qualifying clinical experience including mental health.
  • Experience of delivering vocational rehabilitation using occupational therapy
  • Awareness of vocational legislation (e.g. Equality act) and the ability to apply to the role.
  • Experience of facilitating groups
Desirable criteria
  • Research experience
  • Lived experience of Mental Health conditions
  • Supervision skills
  • Clinical experience in long term condition management, pain management or fatigue management

Knowledge and skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assess and treat vocational needs using occupational therapy and principles of occupational science.
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision
  • Good communication skills
  • Good report writing.
  • Standard keyboard skills and ability to communicate through IT using packages such as Word.
  • Ability to keep accurate up to date records and statistics.
  • Awareness of current evidence base for vocational rehabilitation and can make decisions based on best evidence principles. Knowledge of occupational therapy models of practice including the Model of human occupation.
  • Responsible for maintaining registration with HCPC and/or other professional bodies.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of relevant national context around working in health and social care including NHS People Plan
  • Some knowledge of Integrated Care Systems
