As a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in cardiac CT and/or MIBI,  you will be at the forefront of transforming Cardiovascular Care and Imaging. The Radiology and Cardiology departments developed this joint post to provide services that meet the demands of our local population.

You will help us expand our services across all hospital sites working closely with the local Integrated Care Network to promote a high standard of care.

Main duties of the job

·  By joining the Imaging and Cardiology Services, you will actively be involved in the development of the cardiac CT service.

The sessional commitments were designed to include 10 PAs with on-call commitments of 1 in 7-weekend cardiology ward rounds. Additional PA may be available as mutually agreed at job planning. Opportunities for a day off-site working and non-working time can also be considered to meet an applicant’s work-life balance needs.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the cardiac CT service, providing radiographer training and supervision as well as service-driving development and expansion.

As a senior member of staff, you will actively participate in MDT meetings and clinical governance activities.

Education is important to us. Therefore, you will teach and train the junior members of staff, and participate in continuing medical education.

As a leader, you will arrange appropriate CPD for yourself and your team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The job plan is anticipated to contain 10 programmed activities, 8.5 PA's of direct clinical care and 1.5 SPA's per week. You will be required to work across Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon. Travel between sites will be suitably reimbursed. We are open to consider alternative job content on a personal basis.

You will be joining the Consultant rota on a 1:7 weekend ward rounds as following consultant of the week model. Currently, there are no on call commitments; however, it is expected that the cardiology team moves towards providing 24/7 cover.

You will contribute to general cardiology services including outpatients’ clinics and inpatient ward work as consultant of the week as well as reviewing outlying patients with cardiac conditions. You will share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service ad participation on strategic planning.

You will be expected to attend the multidisciplinary team meetings and the clinical governance activity across the directorate.

Teaching and training junior members of staff are essential to your professional activity as well as participating in continuing medical education.

 

Person specification

Eligibility, Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
  • MRCP or qualification at an equivalent level
  • FRCR/FRCP or equivalent qualification
  • For CT Level 2 BSCI/SCCT or above.
  • at least 6 months of documented experience of independent cardiac reporting is also required
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate academic degree
  • A specialist interest to be agreed to complement those of current staff.
  • Research projects relating to speciality
  • Publications in recognised Radiology/Cardiology journals

Experience and Knowledge
