We are seeking a proactive and motivated Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Heart Failure and Pacing and a passion in providing high quality patient centred cardiology services across our acute hospitals, Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital. You will be a valued member of an inclusive and supportive multidisciplinary team that works collaboratively to deliver inpatient and outpatient Heart Failure services across our hospital sites. Supported by a specialist team of 12 Cardiology consultants, specialist nurses and an experienced Cardiac Physiology team, you will be leading the development of the new Heart Failure Hub at Peterborough City Hospital.

As our new innovative Consultant Cardiologist, you will lead the development of the complex pacing service for the North of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated System. You will provide specialist knowledge and skills in device implantation from brady pacing to complex pacing.

Upon commencing, you will be mentored by the Clinical Lead as well as being allocated a Trust mentor. We will offer secretarial support and office space.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver high quality, patient centred care.
  • Expand and deliver heart failure services.
  • Contribute to general cardiology services, including outpatients’ clinics and inpatient ward work as consultant of the week and reviewing outlying patients with cardiac conditions.
  • Pacemaker implantation
  • Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning
  • Active involvement in MDT meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
  • Teaching, training and participation in continuing medical education.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The job plan is anticipated to contain 10 programmed activities, 8.5 PA's of direct clinical care and 1.5 SPA's per week. You will be required to work across Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon. Travel between sites will be suitably reimbursed. We are open to consider alternative job content on a personal basis.

You will be joining the Consultant rota on a 1:7 weekend ward rounds as following consultant of the week model. Currently, there are no on call commitments; however, it is expected that the cardiology team moves towards providing 24/7 cover.

You will contribute to general cardiology services including outpatients’ clinics and inpatient ward work as consultant of the week as well as reviewing outlying patients with cardiac conditions. You will share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service ad participation on strategic planning.

You will be expected to attend the multidisciplinary team meetings and the clinical governance activity across the directorate.

Teaching and training junior members of staff are essential to your professional activity as well as participating in continuing medical education.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCP or qualification at an equivalent level
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register or, be within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or, provide GMC eligibility for entry on the Specialist Register
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate academic degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of experience in cardiology BHRS or equivalent accreditation in device implantation
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for independent and expert opinion
  • Demonstrate an interest and commitment to the speciality
  • Experience of teaching medical students, doctors in training and other AHPs
  • Teaching Course
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in organising educational activities
