Job overview

This new role supports the expansion of the complex antenatal care pathways at North West Anglia Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be joining a flourishing multi professional team committed to providing the safest care to women whose pregnancies have been complicated by diabetes or weight management concerns.

The post holder will experience a full range of clinical exposure which will encompass complex antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care across both of the hospital sites. The post holder will also work in conjunction with the practice development, audit and guideline teams to continue to strengthen and modernise our maternity pathways.

The team seeks a well rounded, enthusiastic individual to join them in providing personalised evidence based care to women across our hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

- Clinical co-ordination and oversight of care of women whose pregnancies are complicate by diabetes.

- Provide clinic based care for the antenatal diabetes caseload pan site

- Provide clinical expertise for women across all areas of their maternity care, including antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.

- Carry a bleep/telephone to provide support and guidance for maternity staff caring for women with diabetes/weight management within a hospital setting

- Support training for maternity staff in conjunction with practice development teams

-Support data collection and audit as required

- Support guideline and documentation management

- Travel between hospital sites will be required

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The post holder will be a specialist resource in diabetes and weight management during pregnancy, childbirth and the post-natal period.
  • The post holder within their role will encompass all aspects of education, research, evidence based practice and management but remain firmly grounded in direct clinical care provision to women and their families.
  • The post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide and co-ordinate high standards of care for women whose maternity pathways are complicated by diabetes and weight management.

  • The post holder will act as an expert resource for staff.
  • In conjunction with the Specialist Midwives for Diabetes and Weight management and the Practice Development team, the post holder will provide education and contribute to the professional development of all staff.
  • The post holder will develop and implement the Antenatal Weight Management Service for pregnant women and their families in order to improve pregnancy outcomes in relation to obesity. 
  • Travel between hospital sites will be required

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Registered midwife
  • • Educated to degree level

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • A minimum of 1 years post qualification experience
  • • Experience of working across all areas of maternity care, including community midwifery
Desirable criteria
  • • Competence with practical midwifery skills
  • • Previous experience of teaching/presentation

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Understanding of importance of accuracy, record keeping and planning
  • • Understanding of Personalised care planning and their significance pertaining to complex antenatal care

Key Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain good working relations with staff at all levels
