Job overview
An exciting full-time, permanent opportunity for a developing Orthoptist has arisen at NWAngliaFT.
This is a multi-site post across 3 busy but friendly hospitals providing care in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire across all areas of Orthoptics including both face to face and virtual activity. The Orthoptic workforce is strongly supported by a team of Consultants and Associate Specialists to form a multi disciplinary team that includes nurses, ophthalmic technicians, doctors, secretarial and booking staff and Eye Clinic Liaison Officers.
Main duties of the job
Alongside core Orthoptic, Optometry and Paediatric Ophthalmology clinics, the Orthoptist team support the wider department in many subspecialities - including glaucoma, medical retina, emergency, cornea and neuro-ophthalmology. For the right candidate, development opportunities are supported and actively encouraged both clinically and non-clinically. The department also supports teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate Orthoptic students, medical and other non-medical workforce. This role would also include cross-site working across three of our sites - Peterborough, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford.

Education
Essential criteria
- Active HCPC Registration
- Experience of autonomous working as an Orthoptist
- Degree/Qualification in Orthoptics
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial post-qualification experience across a wide range of paediatric and adult orthoptic clinics
- Experience managing complex or specialist caseloads independently
- Experience supervising junior staff, students, or assistants
- Experience contributing to service development, pathway improvement, or implementation of new clinical processes
- Experience participating in audit, quality improvement, or research activities
- Experience using electronic patient record systems and ophthalmic diagnostic equipment
Desirable criteria
- Experience working within extended roles (e.g., low vision, refraction, ophthalmic diagnostics, IVT/macular pathways, or equivalent)
Knowledge/Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to work under pressure and time constraints
- Good organisational and administrative skills
- Able to work both as an individual or as a part of a team
- Well-developed interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with a wide range of staff, patients and the public
