Job overview

The post holder will be a single-handed restorative Consultant. This will be as part of the wider oral and maxillofacial team.

The post holder will be expected to follow the job plan and manage their own work programme, within Trust policy and procedures This is a part-time post between 3 and 5 PAs with the NHS Consultant Contract

The NHS job plan includes 1 PA Admin/SPA.  The specific details of the job plan will be confirmed with the post holder.

Main duties of the job

·       Provide outpatients clinics: new, review and treatment

·       Become involved in the interdisciplinary care of patients with Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

·       Expand links with the Head and Neck Cancer Centre (CUH).

·       Continue to progress and develop dental implant service

·       Become involved in regional networks such as the MCN for restorative dentistry.

·       Participate in clinical audit.

·       Initiate and be involved in service development in their areas of special interest and in line with the Trust’s vision.

·       Be expected to take an active part in continuing dental education.

·       Undertake and participate in the appraisal process and job planning as part of revalidation

·       The Trust encourages involvement in clinical governance

 

The Unit provides a comprehensive secondary care service in all of restorative dentistry, including rehabilitation of patients undergoing treatment for head & neck cancer and trauma.

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC and GDC registration
  • Entry on to the GMC/GDC Specialist Register via: CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)
  • CESR or European Community Rights
  • An appropriately higher Oral & Maxillofacial surgical qualification
  • Knowledge of the principles of research and evidence of recent involvement in research.
  • ALS and ATLS
Desirable criteria
  • Compliance with all Mandatory Training
  • Participation in management activity SpR Management course
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad experience in all aspects of oral & maxillo-facial surgery
  • Proven interest and experience in Head & Neck surgery, including facial deformity
  • Experience in surgical dermatology
  • Experience of emergency care
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of involvement in research projects
  • Appreciation of and evidence training in Human Factors

Skills, Knowledge and Aptitude

Essential criteria
  • Ability to fulfil all elements of the job description.
  • Specialist knowledge of oral diseases and their management.
  • Competence in operative surgery and management of trauma
  • Practical knowledge and proven experience of care of acutely ill patients.
  • Ability to develop the service.
  • Demonstration of an interest and commitment to teaching others
  • Experience of / ability to supervise and train junior doctors.
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multiprofessional and team basis with all levels of sta
